January is over

Very cold in Sendai the last few days -seems like I am feeling it more this year… age? Illness?

No flu yet though, fingers crossed on that one 🙂

  1. Hi Ben,
I enjoy reading your stuff – please keep it up.
I have been working in Tokyo for a few years and a while back, with one eye on retirement, I bought a derelict farmhouse in the depths of Nagano Ken. I want to find out about subsidies for putting solar panels on the roof, but can’t seem to get any details. Can you or any of your readers help?
I’d also like to get in touch with any other foreigners who have tried renovating a country property here.
I see that some of your articles touch on the medical system in Japan. I had a full hip replacement done here in May – so might be able to pass on some advice to anyone in a similar situation.

    1. The people that know all about the subsidies are the companies that install the panels 🙂

Ask them for a free quote and get them to explain what is available. Confusingly, some subsidies are available in specific areas or through specific companies and not others.

Just did a quick search and found this info site by Panasonic: http://sumai.panasonic.jp/solar/subsidy_info.html

Seems like most regions have used up all their money for next year, so you’d have to wait until April for the next round to begin.

  2. Ben, I think its a pretty mild winter over all (I also live in Sendai) we have had a few 10 C days, pretty rare most winters here
