I remember from your blog post, one of the comments says the CIC and JICC pull from the same database? Any idea if that is still correct? I still think we should get all 3 as you suggest for comparison.

Re: Get your credit score in Japan

I got 2 of my credit reports and one of my wife's after we were knocked back for a home loan from rakuten after passing the initial screening. Wanted to see if there was anything strange showing up ... there wasn't. Hi Tony (and hopefully Ben jumps in), I seem to be in a similar situation. For the ...

Re: Spending Tracking in Japan

I will also give my vote for Moneytree being very straightforward to use and track spending.

Re: Inflation and retirement planning in Japan

I think it is also important to note that being a foreigner in Japan (even in retirement) usually means you have some connections overseas. Whether that is parents, siblings, or children. One thing I discovered during the pandemic last year was how much prices had increased when I had to purchase ti...

Re: Contractor vs Self-Employed vs Sole Proprietor

So, in summary, it's annoyingly simple and I have overthought it! And in essence, I don't need to do anything different to what I'm already doing. Posting just in case this is useful for anyone else, but the usual caveats apply - this is what one person at the tax office said and it's my understand...

What is the new Rakuten Cash scheme for investment?

Re: Credit card comparisons

Rakuten also bought the Taiwan baseball team 'Monkeys' last year. Not sure if they are included in the win point bonus. If they are then, having two baseball teams would increase the chances of getting the bonus points due to the fact that the season overlap and that baseball has so many games compa...

Home Loans outside City Planning Area

I posted this on the JapanFinance reddit, but thought I might get a different audience here. Is there any way to search Japanese bank home loans? Specifically to see what banks allow for mortgage (land + new build) on land outside of the city planning area (都市計画区域)? For example, Shinsei allows for l...

Re: Understanding Home Subsidies

There was a thread on reddit today about make a home more green, but one of the posts was about solar panel + battery combinations. In Japan there appear to be solar loans to consider.

Re: Understanding Home Subsidies

Not sure how widespread it is, but I've heard that by using 'local wood' you can get subsidy/cash back. Do you know if this is for building purposes or for use in a wood stove? I found the Niigata Prefecture government was promoting local source wood for CLT production as an example, but when I con...
