I wonder how this has changed with the migration to IBSJ accounts, in terms of FBAR reporting...

FBAR for "new" Interactive Brokers

Question I'm sure I already know the answer to, but maybe this can serve as a notice for others as well. I blasted out and mailed my US taxes the other day, no problems, then did the FBAR which is always quick and easy with referring to last year's info and calculating each bank account's highwater ...

Dividends taxed for only part of the year - how declare?

In 2023, I had dividends that for the first time crossed the 200000 yen threshold. About half had tax withheld on the Japan side (post-Interactive Brokers to IBSJ migration.) Any advice on if I still need to do a kakutei-shinkoku just for dividends because the entire total was over 200000 yen (even ...

Re: Final Tax return just for dividends

1) when doing a final tax return, you will need to provide details from your year end adjustment slip, and then the extra things you want to declare - dividends in your case. ...The other thing you might want to check though, is whether IB does tax withholding at the source for Japan tax already on...

Final Tax return just for dividends

Even though this is a tax question, I feel like a dummy, so I'm posting this here. So, I am an American PR holder who has their 年末調整 done every year by their workplace. A few years ago I started investing (US ETFs through Interactive Brokers), and my dividends always fell below the 200000 yen thresh...

Re: IBSJ - Buying US Stocks with JPY

IBSJ accounts can hold other currencies and deposit/withdraw in JPY, USD, GBP, and EUR.

So when you say automatic, you mean I can just buy the USD ETF with JPY, no conversion in advance necessary? Thanks.

IBSJ - Buying US Stocks with JPY

Stupid question, but with the migration of my IB account to an IBSJ account, I'm thinking to make my first investments since the migration. So, the bulk of the money in my account is now in JPY. I plan to buy some US ETFs. Do I need to manually convert the JPY to USD within IBSJ before making the pu...

Re: US REIT not available at Interactive Brokers JP - Alternatives ?

Yeah, I have the Vanguars REIT with IB but I guess I will have to sell it (at a loss...) for the changeover. Luckily my deadline is August.

Re: What is going on with Interactive Brokers Japan? Any updates?

I finally got another email from them today saying I need to confirm the changeover by August 31st. So things should be moving again.
