Re: Receiving uk pension while living in Japan.

After the pension income deduction is applied, the remaining gets taxed along with whatever other income you have. But you also have other tax deductions such as the ¥480,000 basic deduction. Also your national health insurance (or whatever equivalent OAPs pay) should be a tax deductible too. The U...

Re: Receiving uk pension while living in Japan.

…So imagine say sb has 4 million in combined state pensions (the Japanese one, the UK one and the ideco). Then would the following calculation get you the figure that is subject to taxation? (4 mil x 0.75) - 275000 pension deduction - 480000 income tax deduction - 430000 residential tax deduction -...

Re: Competing for a property with multiple buyers

We saw a property we loved the other day, a real bargain. Met the owner, and checked the property over with an agent and a trusted architect/renovator. We made an offer on the same day, along with at least 1 other interested party. The Agent said it"s first come first serve . Whoever passes mo...

Re: Need advice: take profits?

Check out Obsidian for keeping notes. https://obsidian.md/ This is fun! Thanks! I’m liking the graph view and dragging things around like I’m Ender from “Ender’s game”*! * Being “narrowly read” this was just the second time in my life that I’d read the book before seeing the movie. I’ve seen well o...

Re: Need advice: take profits?

Oh shit. I’ve just realized that after 8 hours slaving over spread sheets for work I’m increasingly using excel to track all manner of personal stuff. I am finding that I am using spreadsheets to keep information on things not just numbers-related. I am doing some research on storage cabinets right...

Re: Need advice: take profits?

Well, gosh darn it... I will look into creating accounts at Monex for my kids. It will beat having to keep track of things on a spreadsheet. Oh shit. I’ve just realized that after 8 hours slaving over spread sheets for work I’m increasingly using excel to track all manner of personal stuff. Not jus...

Re: Pending- Law to revoke the permanent residency status of foreign nationals who fail to pay taxes

It's just mind boggling that they have documented 200 permanent residents who are in arrears for pension etc and they are making laws about it. If pension nonpayment is an issue, why not strengthen enforcement across the board? There must be hundreds of thousands if not millions of people in Japan ...
