Re: Need advice: take profits?

Well, gosh darn it... I will look into creating accounts at Monex for my kids. It will beat having to keep track of things on a spreadsheet. Oh shit. I’ve just realized that after 8 hours slaving over spread sheets for work I’m increasingly using excel to track all manner of personal stuff. Not jus...

But pension income gets a nice pension income deduction https://www.nta.go.jp/taxes/shiraberu/taxanswer/shotoku/1600.htm You’d add your Japanese pension, iDeCo annuity, and UK state pension, and applicable pension annuities together and then use that table to work out your pension income deduction ...

Re: Pending- Law to revoke the permanent residency status of foreign nationals who fail to pay taxes

It's just mind boggling that they have documented 200 permanent residents who are in arrears for pension etc and they are making laws about it. If pension nonpayment is an issue, why not strengthen enforcement across the board? There must be hundreds of thousands if not millions of people in Japan ...

Re: Yen falling like a stone

If your a "Investor" or "Speculator" it doesn't matter. The last 5-10 years the markets have shifted in the terms of inflation/volatility. Hyperinflation is not really on the table but for a long term Stagflation environment most likely. Maybe another market crash in USA will ha...

Re: Work problems.

Word for word, the contract I have says “Holidays Holidays include Mondays and Fridays, other determined holidays (2-3days a month), December 22 to January 3, and summer holidays (around 10 days during the month of August). Annual paid vacation days The employee shall have up to eight paid vacation...

Re: Entering semi-retirement - what now?

... Meanwhile I'm filling out the Hello Work documentation. I think they are just going to roll their eyes and grin based on my previous work compensation and expectations. I don't see any way it would benefit me to fudge either so I'm playing it straight as I believe I'm fairly entitled to the ben...

Re: Entering semi-retirement - what now?

I did go to hello work first as I didn't want to do the back and forth to get it amended (it does take a few days to get this paper though). Keep in mind that this is not a reduction for low income households, it's a reduction for the unemployed (by company's decision). I had a fairly good salary t...

Re: Entering semi-retirement - what now?

It's worth doing the math and checking with your city hall how much it would cost once they take into account the 30/100 calculation. There are some links here and there should be some on your city's/district's website. https://www.mhlw.go.jp/stf/houdou/2r98520000004o7v.html For me it was quite a s...

Re: Entering semi-retirement - what now?

Hi all, I'm writing to share my recent transition into semi-retirement, a journey that's both exciting and a bit daunting. After nearly 20 years in my previous job, I've found myself at a crossroads in my mid-50s. The job market isn't overly welcoming at my age, especially for positions similar to ...
