Re: Kakutei Shinkoku 2024 using the online eTax system?

Ha, ha, I did mine today. Took about 70 minutes from logging in to sending in the final return. Quite impressed with some of the automation (scanning 源泉徴収票 from photo, etc.). Good luck! Thanks for your reply, that's useful information. I just went to Rakuten's site to get the xml files (寄附金控除証明書の発行...

Kakutei Shinkoku 2024 using the online eTax system?

Hi everyone, Given the deadline is this Friday 15 March, I realise I have left it a little late to complete my Tax Declaration (kakutei-shinkoki) for this year. However, in theory my case should be straightforward. I am a salaried employee who already completed my Year-end tax adjustment (nenmatsu-c...

Re: Rakuten Gold Card: Time to Switch?

I might switch to another card entirely for my main card if they also lower the credit limit as threatened. Their loss, I guess. They are also reducing your credit limit due to these changes? That's surprising. I'm downgrading the card. The advertised max credit limit for the premium card is higher...

Re: Visa, Mastercard, or AMEX?

VISA is by far the most dominant card brand. There's not really any downside to getting a mastercard since most retailers support at least the top 2. There are quirks here and there like the Costco example. I know Amazon gives 5 times less points to Rakuten Mastercard purchases for example. But for...

Re: Applying for a second credit card straight after receiving another one good idea?

I just applied for, and was accepted for an ANA Gold (SMBC) card through SMBC. Great. I also want to apply for a Rakuten Premium card for the airport lounge access (the card comes with priority pass). I already have a 'standard' Rakuten credit card with a substantial monthly usage history which has...

Re: GAICA is ending

What's the advantage of using your Wise card in the UK over a Japanese credit card? I guess the FX rate would be worse with the CC, but on the other hand that might be offset by the points you accrue on your credit card (miles etc.) Exactly. The loaded rate is is usually multiple times more than th...

Re: Visa, Mastercard, or AMEX?

Thanks for everyone's input. Maybe I will get Mastercard then this time to diversify and in case I shop at Costco.

I heard that MC is less common than Visa in Japan, not sure if that's true. Are there any potential disadvantages going with Mastercard in Japan that anyone is aware of?

Visa, Mastercard, or AMEX?

I am applying for a third Japanese credit card, and my first two are both Visa cards. The new card I am applying for gives me the option of Visa, Mastercard, or AMEX. Is there any advantage to diversifying the payment provider by having a card that isn't Visa this time?

Thanks for your reply Ben. Good to know! I will go ahead and apply then.
