Re: Flying to Ireland
Easiest way to look at all the flight options available is with farecompare.com. I have in the past flown from Japan to both UK and Ireland with Ethihad, Emirates, Turkish, Singapore, Air France & KLM. Ethihad, Emirates, Turkish, Singapore are all equally excellent, both the flights, food, servi...

Re: Transferring UK Inheritance to Japan - I'm clueless!
Wow, that's a lot of detail they asked you for. In my case, very similar to yours, I was asked nothing... just the one word "inheritance" to explain the source of funds, and no further questions asked. I wonder what the difference is...?

Re: Transferring UK Inheritance to Japan - I'm clueless!
Funds arrived in my account with no fuss. They just asked the purpose of the transfer to which I answered truthfully "inheritance". I was also asked to register my MyNumber with SonyBank urgently...which I have not yet done, as I was able to access the funds without doing so. Pleased also ...

Re: Transferring UK Inheritance to Japan - I'm clueless!
I'm actually in mid-process. Funds have arrived at my bank (Sony Bank - an account which I opened for the purpose of receiving the funds in the original currency rather than let the banks exchange at an unfavourable rate), I today stated the source as "inheritance", and now waiting to see ...

Re: Transferring UK Inheritance to Japan - I'm clueless!
@Beaglehound, many thanks for your kind input. There are in fact 4 siblings, including myself. I'm the only one resident in Japan so that would appear to put me in the clear based on a rough tallying up of figures. Although the question I now have is whether I would need to declare it regardless of...

Re: 10 years old! How has RetireJapan helped you?
I came across this forum via Google searching at the end of 2017, after having had a consultation with a predatory financial advisor operating in Ebisu targeting gaijin, and feeling skeptical about what I felt were unreasonably high buy-in and management fees, and searching for a better way of getti...

Re: Inheritance of a house located outside Japan
Thanks a lot for your answers. I guess I was assuming only Spanish law, where my parents are from. In Spain, regions are independent in terms of inheritance tax, so when inheriting a house, the tax is always payed where the house is located, regardless where the heir is located (and of course the h...

Re: Advice sought regarding inheritance tax, UK version
Thanks for the explanation @clearasmud.
My share will, as expected, be under the basic exemption and therefore no filing obligations.
It's a tricky issue, and one that I expect many forum members will encounter at some stage.

Re: My Inheritance Tax Experience
Condolences for your loss. Exemptions on my share are a 30,000,000 personal exemption and 6,000,000 exemption from my mother's name being on the will. My share was over this amount so I needed to pay inheritance tax on the overage. I originally went to my local tax office for advice, but being in t...
