Re: Preparing a rental apt for the market - blinds/curtains etc.
Seems easy enough to leave old things if the tenants agree that upgrades won’t be provided. I disagree being stuck with an old couch, table etc you don't want in a rental would be pretty terrible. No way to store them for free, you'd have to pay to get rid of them etc etc. That’s the point. If the ...

Re: Preparing a rental apt for the market - blinds/curtains etc.
A house we rented until recently had some blinds and curtains installed. The agreement was that if we wanted to remove them and put our own in, we could. If we kept them and then they broke, they wouldn’t be replaced. Similarly with an old air con. It was working when we moved in, but if it broke, i...

Re: For Brits: it's time to vote
Just wanted to make sure no-one else has made the same incorrect assumption as me. As an overseas voter, I just automatically assumed that the ballot papers would be posted out to us. But that’s not the case. If you want a postal vote, of course you need to apply for it. It’s not automatic. My const...

Inheritance planning question
Can’t help thinking inheritance planning is a bit of a dark topic emotionally but I suppose it makes perfect sense financially. Firstly, could I just confirm my understanding of inheritance. When my mother dies, my brother and I will inherit the house. We won’t need to pay inheritance tax because th...

Re: Insurance for freelancers
What would you need to insure as a freelancer that any health/life insurance doesn't cover? Loss of earnings I'm a freelance writer so have no assets. My health insurance covers me in case of hospitalization/serious injury or sickness. Does it cover loss of earnings too? They way I'm thinking at th...

Insurance for freelancers
A discussion on a different thread about liability insurance led me to this question. I’m a freelancer/contractor at the company I work for but I’m not covered on their liability insurance. Do any freelancers/contractors on this board have any insurance that covers inability to work due to sickness ...

Re: PR Application with no Job?
I was similarly worried when I applied for PR. Covid was raging and I was concerned the company I was working for would go belly up. Pretty much the day I became eligible, I got my application in. I checked and checked and checked the paperwork I submitted. I got the result in 3 and a half months an...
