Re: Ray Dalio Nikkei interview “ more inflation and higher gold prices”

If you follow Ray Dalio on LinkedIn he posts frequent essays with his thoughts and predictions. I find them interesting but not particularly actionable :D

Re: Saving/Investing options

Thank you both for your response. The managed fees on my growth fund in NZ are .25% ($2.50 on $1000) Adamu so all good there thanks. I hadn't actually realised I had comments on my post and went ahead and pre-ordered your Guide to NISA 2024 Ben - lol. But am happy to learn about it all the same. Ch...

Re: NISA a bad idea for mortgage holders?

Really don't agree with this, at least for people who have a reasonable margin of safety with their mortgage payments. If any increase in your payments would put your finances in danger, you have an unaffordable mortgage  How high are rates likely to go? From 0.29% (current lowest floating ra...

Re: NISA - portfolio for the longest term

Going to depend on your situation (of course). I'm planning to have a barbell like allocation: large chunk of cash and world stock fund. But also hoping to have far more money than we need, which will give us a lot of flexibility (we should be able to live off our pensions more or less). You would p...

Re: Can NICs application cause a residency challenge?

Hmm, well there are certainly people who maybe get sent over by their employer to work in Japan, so I guess they start full-time from day one, but many people come as a spouse of a Japanese person and look for work or come by themselves and look for an employer, so only people in the first case wou...

Re: Saving/Investing options

I agree with adamu: if you'll be leaving Japan in a couple of years it's probably not worth setting things up here but instead build a foundation in NZ.

No language issues, and you'll be able to continue using the same providers after you move.

Re: Yay or nay? Rakuten Index Balance Fund (70% VT + 30% yen-hedged BNDW) in NISA account?

Having the two asset classes mixed in the fund kind of misses the point IMO: I'd want to be selling bonds after a stock crash etc 🤔

Re: Sanity check on tax implications of applying for PR

Interesting thread. Thanks for this. Has anyone investigated the possibility to avoid the withholding taxes in the case of Japanese online brokers - eg Rakuten - incase we sell when we’re overseas in a jurisdiction with no capital gains on equities? This thread has got me thinking - maybe all the m...

Re: Selling English books

Facebook groups. Or if Ben and other members are fine with it, list them here. I would definitely be interested. Don't do FB. Is it ok with Ben and others to list them here? There's 7 hardbacks and about 50+ paperbacks. (The + means those I plan to re-read one final time before letting them go.) On...
