Hi Lucas
You should be able to buy ETFs through IB Japan.
My understanding is that they may be able to transfer common stocks/ETFs to IB in another country. Probably best to confirm with them directly though.

Re: SBI wanting update of customer information
Mercari, SBI, Paypay, Rakuten, Amazon Sellers... I guess it's the global KYC (Know Your Customer) regulations. Mercari, SBI, etc don't have a say in the matter. And neither do you! That is not quite correct. Each institution makes their own rules that often go above and beyond what the government r...

Re: Receiving uk pension while living in Japan.
Thank you for this information Tunaski, I will hold on to the link provided. But as stated, the pension in the uk is not currently taxable as it falls below the taxing threshold. So for example: pension paid directly into my uk hsbc account and is not taxed. How much of it can I transfer over to Ja...

Re: WHO WAS YOUR GUARANTOR?
I don't remember having a guarantor for my mortgage, but if I did have one it was probably my father in law or my wife. They are not on the property deed in any way even if they did sign as guarantor.

Re: Junior NISA replacement
未成年 accounts are taxable, and if you give the money to your children it is theirs. More control, fewer taxes if you invest it in your NISA.Goldenhand wrote: ↑Mon May 13, 2024 4:05 pm 未成年 broker accounts. Nice!
Maxing out my own lifetime contribution limit? Why?
You can always give them the money later if you choose to.

Re: Junior NISA replacement
Yes, but consider maxing out your own NISA first.
Children can have 未成年 broker accounts.

Re: Pending- Law to revoke the permanent residency status of foreign nationals who fail to pay taxes
It's just mind boggling that they have documented 200 permanent residents who are in arrears for pension etc and they are making laws about it. If pension nonpayment is an issue, why not strengthen enforcement across the board? There must be hundreds of thousands if not millions of people in Japan w...

Re: Pending- Law to revoke the permanent residency status of foreign nationals who fail to pay taxes
Grim article in the Mainichi, claiming 10% of permanent residents fail to pay taxes. Turns out this is based on a small sample of PR applications from the immigration department, and includes pension and health insurance. So not actual permanent residents (one would assume such applications were tu...

Re: UK state pension voluntary contributions online
Do you know if those who are class 2 can pay online like this? Given that for class 2 the system defaults to class 3 (until it’s paid, then it appears as self employment the same way as class 2) Don't think so. I had to lie to get to the payment screen (if you live abroad there's a chance you might...

Re: UK state pension voluntary contributions online
Ooooh, update. Just tried again and it kind of worked.
Logged into my UK bank via the HMRC site, and it seems to have worked except I needed my card reader to confirm the transaction (which is at home).
Will try again tonight. Exciting.
