Re: Nisa Selling a stock.
If you have maxed out your Annual Allowances, you cannot invest until the next year, to the limit of your Lifetime Allowance and your new Annual Allowances. So, that means the next year I will be able to invest not only the 3.6m annual allowance, but also the extra amount which I freed up from sell...

Re: Need help with Rakuten証券
Thanks.
I have no idea what this means though. I will investigate tomorrow.
Regarding the shares, most if not all major players in the semiconductor manufacturing equipment sector are going to see strong growth in the next few years; hence me purchasing now.

Need help with Rakuten証券
I just tried to buy ten shares of Tokyo Electron through my Rakuten証券 account. It’s 特定, as I have already maxed out my 2024 NISA成長 ¥2.4m through my SBI account. The share price is ¥28,630, so ten shares is ¥286,300. But Rakuten shows it will take ¥337,040 for this transaction. So a difference of ¥50...

Re: Another article about UK pensions
From the Guardian The retirement age will have to rise to 71 for middle-aged workers across the UK, according to research into the impact of growing life expectancy and falling birthrates on the state pension. https://www.theguardian.com/money/2024/feb/05/uk-state-pension-age-will-soon-need-to-rise...

Re: UK driving licence
Whenever I go back to the UK I make sure to get an international driving permit here in Japan before leaving.
I still have my old UK driving licence (pink card one), but it expired a long time ago.
If there is a way to renew my UK licence from Japan, I would be keen to know!

Re: What to do with cash? Safe, liquid investment options?
The best bank account I have found for my three-month emergency fund is Rakuten bank.
They will pay 0.1% interest p.a. on balances up to ¥3m. (0.079% after tax)

Don't spend all that interest at once!

Re: Delaying pension
As the UK pension is fixed for Japan residents when you retire, if you delay your UK pension, will it be fixed at the higher rate? If Japan continues with this low rate of inflation compared with the UK could this make delaying your UK pension even more attractive? Any opinions? The low rate of inf...

Re: Tax on money awarded as compensation
I was curious about this so I googled it but it seems like any compensatory damages 損害賠償 for distress (even the payment for divorce 慰謝料) is considered non-taxable in Japan. Obviously your personal situation might be different but you might be in the clear https://www.nta.go.jp/taxes/shiraberu/taxan...

Tax on money awarded as compensation
I've been involved in a long-running legal case in the UK. It looks like I may be awarded compensation. This money will go into my NatWest bank account. I plan to transfer it to Japan using WISE. I have no idea if this money will be taxed in the UK before I receive it (probably), but how about Japan...
