Re: Voluntary UK pension contribution

Despite what it seems, whether you can pay class 2 or not is pretty clearly defined. Despite the bit about ‘Immediately before going abroad, you were ordinarily an employed or self-employed earner in the UK’, I was unemployed for 5 weeks before I came here (and told them) but I could still pay Clas...

Okay, thanks for the confirmation. Incidentally, can you link to the page which shows that Kumamoto bank doesn't charge for the Tsumitate-NISA? I couldn't find it. It's on this page, towards the middle. Search for "購入手数料が0円" https://www.kumamotobank.co.jp/personal/service/toushishintaku/n...

Re: Does the bank you use for your NISA matter?

In your case, you're dealing with 2 companies (or divisions). SBI Bank and SBI Securities. In your friend's case, it's the investment arm of Kumamoto bank. SBI Bank doesn't make money off of you other than maybe transfer fees (although I assume those are free with SBI Securities) because they're ju...

Re: Preplanning your own funeral

and had donated a fair bit of cash to his temple Ah, just like the Lord would have wanted! :D Just to piggy back on this, is a funeral involving a crematorium required by law in Japan? I have a plot of land and would be happy to be doused in gasoline, burned, then scattered on that land. I have the...

Does the bank you use for your NISA matter?

Here's the situation: I use SBI for my NISA, and I only invest in the eMAxis Slim All Country. The 運用管理費用 is 0.05775% per year. There is no 購入時手数料. A friend uses a local bank in Kyushu, 熊本銀行, for his NISA. He invests in this fund : https://shorturl.at/jxzUW The 運用管理費用 is 1.639% per year. The 購入時手数料 ...

Re: Delaying pension

I wonder if anyone on this forum is actually on course to pay the full forty years of contributions? I started when I was thirty or so, so I am on course to pay in thirty years' worth of contributions (kouseinenken, in my case). You'd have to start paying in at twenty in order to have a full whack b...

It took about two months for MONEX to set up my iDeCo.
It was actually remarkably pain-free, compared to anything to do with Rakuten.

Re: WHAT AND HOW DID YOU PAY FOR YOUR DETACHED HOUSE?

I bought a large house on an acre of beautiful forest land for 13.5m yen in 2017. Took out a 20-year 110% mortgage, at 1.8%, later reduced to 1.5%. Sold the house and land in 2023 for 18m yen. I am single with PR. House was built in 1997. When I sold it, the house and land had a book value of, I thi...
