Re: Receiving uk pension while living in Japan.
What a complicated mixed up system. I feel completely lost in it all now. And I was going to ask a question about transferring any uk savings via a wise account, think I will skip that question for now lol. You can transfer your UK Savings completely tax free, so long as the savings were in your ac...

Re: Receiving uk pension while living in Japan.
It’s not at the Uk thershold (yet). But with triple lock growth which will continue until you reach claiming age, it might be. Also if you have other UK sourced income it adds a to your UK state pension which might then push you above the UK threshold. Utilizing the Tax treaty should enable you to ...

Re: Receiving uk pension while living in Japan.

So for example: pension paid directly into my uk hsbc account and is not taxed. How much of it can I transfer over to Ja...

If you transfer assets, you have to account for them, calculate the capital gain, and pay capital gains tax, and if over the Gift tax Threshold, the child would have to pay pay Gift Tax, as if you had sold the assets, paid the Capital Gains Tax, transferred the cash, paid Gift Tax, and then repurcha...

Re: Inheritance planning question
You should consult with a professional. Can’t help thinking inheritance planning is a bit of a dark topic emotionally but I suppose it makes perfect sense financially. Firstly, could I just confirm my understanding of inheritance. When my mother dies, my brother and I will inherit the house. We won’...

Yes, as YouMeWeThem said, they will determine by inputs how much of the balance was attributed to each party, and the portion attributed to the deceased party will be included in the Estate for the calculation of Inheritance Tax. If they didn't contribute anything, then 0%. If they were the only con...

Re: Dollars or Yen when buying new US stock for NISA?
It doesn't really matter. You're still converting Yen to Dollars to buy the underlying assets.
The Fund Administrator maybe gets a slightly better exchange rate than you would if you converted Yen to Dollars to buy Dollar Denominated Assets, but you're still buying overseas assets with Weak Yen.

Another article on this in the Mainichi today. This time providing much better context. Apparently the rate of nenkin payment non-compliance amongst the whole of the population is double that of the immigration sample... https://mainichi.jp/english/articles/20240511/p2a/00m/0na/008000c From a discu...
