Re: Is child support (after divorce) tax deductible ?

Thanks @Tkydon. Actually, she's been on and off from work, part time at best. Is there a kind of minimum income level, under which claiming the Dependent Allowance is not allowed or not meaningful anymore ? Extreme example, imagine she received only 200,000 JPY as 2023 salaries, if she declares the ...

Is child support (after divorce) tax deductible ?

I'm paying a monthly amount to my ex-wife as child support (she has the shinken and my child is living with her).
Is it possible to get a tax reduction by declaring this amount somewhere in my kakutei shinkoku ?

RAKUTEN - Name discrepancy between Rakuten Shoken & Rakuten Card

Hello, Trying to set-up my new NISA tsumitate payments by RAKUTEN VISA Card, I encountered the dreadful "The name of the card and the name of the Rakuten Shoken account do not match" error. I used my full name (family name + 3 given names) as written on MyNumber card when creating both acc...

Their promise to extend the miles validity after COVID was great, but then making it almost impossible to actually use the extended miles is frustrating (even if it makes sense in terms of business/margin management). Replacing my ANA VISA by a Rakuten Card sounds like an inc...

Using ANA miles for international tickets

Hello, Trying to use my miles (which majority will reach expiration in March 2024, thanks to the CORONA special extension) to get a ticket to Europe. Whatever the dates I check, ALL ANA direct flights are in "waiting for cancellation" status. At certain specific dates, I can find some non ...

Re: What to do if most likely I will not retire in Japan?

IBKR US have stopped accepting new accounts from Japan residents, and informed current account owners that their accounts will be transferred to IBKR Japan. Initially the deadline was APR-2023, but the plan seems to suffer some delays ... So IBKR may not be your ideal solution, especially as IBKR Ja...

US REIT not available at Interactive Brokers JP - Alternatives ?

Interactive Brokers gave me a deadline mid-APR to move my US account to IB Japan, transfer it or close it. Moving to IB JP seemed a nice move towards simplification ... until I realized that most of US REIT are not available under IB JP ... Any reliable alternatives of US brokers accepting JP reside...

Thanks @zeroshiki.
Great information, now I have at least the basic knowledge to talk with the tax office people.
