Re: NISA change proposals

QUESTION: If they remove the time limit on both general/new NISA and tsumitate NISA then why have both systems. Is it just because tsumitate steers people towards regular investing and "safer" investment products? I would venture both that, and, since they are getting rid of Junior NISA, ...

Re: What is your Savings Rate?

Wife is currently back in university, so with one income, we saved 52% of our post-tax income last year. Trying to tighten the belt a bit on several expenses this year to try and up that a bit, but there's only so much left to save without increasing income, which will come once my better half gradu...

Re: Simple Q&A - NISA

Can you contribute to your spouse's NISA? Is there any rule that says contributions must come from earned income from the account holder? Forgive me if the question has been answered elsewhere. I don't think there's any problem there, but I do believe this money is construed as a gift for gift tax ...

Re: water bills

Just my wife and myself, we have consistently paid 1300 yen/month for water the past 2 years. We never use the bath, only shower, and haven't topped 10 m3 a month in years, which is apparently when we leave the 基本料金 zone.

Re: Occupations: What do you do?

I do administration at a private university.

I did teach at university as assistant prof for a while, but it didn't look like I was going to be able to break out of the 5-year contract cycle and I wanted the permanent contract stability.

Lots of higher ed people here.

Re: How much was your car?

First car: 400,000 Nissan March. Wife used it mainly, wrecked the engine with overheating because I failed to keep up with oil changes (apparently) Second car: 1,800,000 Vezel hybrid. Bought second-hand, driving this myself today, very happy with it. Great mileage for the size, special order full le...

Re: Please share this article

You may want to make a quick correction. I should mention briefly that U.S. citizens do not have many suitable options for investing in Japan due to US tax laws and regulations. Most people find it easiest to invest with a U.S. f broker . More on that later. Not sure how the F snuck in there. Ah, t...

Re: nisa lumpsum or tsumitate nisa

some questions on this-you can front load the tsumitate?(pay year amount in lump sum ahead of time?) out of interest what are you investing the taxable 100k in?? You can't entirely, but you can practically frontload almost the entire amount through the bonus system. Say you only pay into one fund, ...

Re: Simple Q&A - NISA

But you can go with a bonus payment. Set up the minimum payment of 100 yen per month for each security you want to invest in, then setup a bonus payment for the next month that equals 400k - (100 * #securities * #remaining months). Could you explain more about this? Tried my head to understand it b...
