Re: ETFs being wound up

Question is: Do Toshi shintaku trusts also get wound up? There's a bit of background to explain the question: One of the ETFs I have 'Nikkei 400 Small and Mid-cap' (ticker: 1492, Mitsubishi UFJ) is being wound up because it's become too small and now inefficient to run. It's mostly in a general acc...

Re: Not Japanese, no entry

Doesn't happen often, but did today when I tried to board a Japanese Maritime Self-Defence Force ship that was open to the public. A bit miffed, to be honest. At the time I just said "oh, okay," and left, but I wish I'd have pushed back a bit more. Probably not a good idea to pick a fight...

Will the Yen reflect Japan's economy over time?

I often wonder whether long-term economic performance correlates with the strength of a currency. A quick search found this: https://www.economicshelp.org/blog/143224/economics/is-a-strong-economy-generally-accompanied-by-a-strong-currency/ Over the next 20 to 30 years, I find it hard to imagine Jap...

Re: Bond Allocation

As I understand it, these inflation-linked bond funds only work if inflation rises more than expected. If inflation rises as expected, you lose out because regular bonds/bond funds are already discounted for inflation expectations, and the premium you pay for inflation protection from JGBi funds is...

Re: Bond Allocation

... From the transcript: "This is the risk if you retire in the year 2000, right? You retire, you think, wow, look at all this money I've built up. Wow, Cisco's doing so well. And then boom ,the dotcom bubble burst, you're 50% down, and you actually won't recover in real terms. So I think 13 y...

Re: Bond Allocation

Again this is only for cashlike positions, not really and "investment" just inflation insurance. It has done that job quite well from the chart. What chart? I am looking at page five of this https://www.am.mufg.jp/pdf/koumokuromi/252189/252189_20231026.pdf which shows negative returns fro...

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JlgMSDYnT2o Yeah, I follow him, and Pensioncraft and James Shack. See his caveat at 8:11 mins. 100% equities has best returns if you can handle the deeper drawdowns along the way. People get nervous, particularly as they approach retirement, and risk screwing it up b...

Re: Bond Allocation

Thanks I I have now moved part of my emergency fund out of cash and into JGBi. Are you going to hold them 10 years until maturity? I thought about parking some of my spare cash there but the debt-to-gdp ratio of 260% is a bit off-putting. I know the Japanese government has plenty of foreign reserve...

Re: Bond Allocation

So....why bother? Most new research data {It may be worth considering an index that tracks inflation linked government bonds} Thanks I I have now moved part of my emergency fund out of cash and into JGBi. Re: How much do mutual funds rely on ETFs and derivatives to keep in line with the index?

Pages 17 (PDF 19) and 216 (PDF 218) of the Long Prospectus state (3)投資制限 ③投資信託証券(上場投資信託証券を除きます。)への実質投資割合は、信託財産の純資産 総額の5%以下とします。 It doesn't say how much is actually in 上場投資信託証券 I think that sentence doesn't tell us anything about ETFs (上場投資信託証券) in the fund, including whether they exist inside it or...
