Re: Does the bank you use for your NISA matter?
Okay, thanks for the confirmation. Incidentally, can you link to the page which shows that Kumamoto bank doesn't charge for the Tsumitate-NISA? I couldn't find it. It's on this page, towards the middle. Search for "購入手数料が0円" https://www.kumamotobank.co.jp/personal/service/toushishintaku/n...

Re: Does the bank you use for your NISA matter?
In your case, you're dealing with 2 companies (or divisions). SBI Bank and SBI Securities. In your friend's case, it's the investment arm of Kumamoto bank. SBI Bank doesn't make money off of you other than maybe transfer fees (although I assume those are free with SBI Securities) because they're ju...

Re: Japanese Credit Cards. What’s in your wallet?
What are the thoughts on maintaining the Rakuten Premium Card - is it still worth it for high earners who push all their Furisato Nozei spending through the platform? I feel like they make the earnings on 0/5 days opaque on purpose… It depends. If you enjoy the other perks on the card (priority pas...

Re: Credit card tsumitate increase
I haven't checked in a while because I got sick of Rakuten's shit but the meta was always the free card or Premium. Gold is a trap that doesn't give enough benefits for the annual fee.

Re: Optimizing depot and tax before returning to Japan
Based on everything I've read from r/JapanFinance, being a PR and not giving it up when you left means you're automatically a permanent resident for tax purposes.

Re: NISA with JA Bank - any feedback or advice ?
Couldn't you do a transfer of, say, 300k to a SBI bank or Rakuten bank account, eat the 770 yen cost, and then do tsumitate from there? 770 yen a transfer seems unreasonably high tbh but I guess for some rural banks you don't have a choice.

Re: NISA with JA Bank - any feedback or advice ?
SBI, Rakuten, Monex, the 3 that are always recommended in this site are brokers, not banks. There is nothing stopping you from opening an account with these brokers. It's not a requirement to open a NISA with JA bank. The only cost you would possibly incur would be bank transfer fees but I don't thi...

Re: NISA info in Japanese
My Japanese brother-in-law believes that pensions and the stock market are a scam and the only way going forward is to save every penny in the bank. I've bought those NISA books RJ had recommended before and sent them to him. His wife is more receptive but I realize how difficult it is to convince J...
