Re: Argentum Pension calculator.

@Bubblegun, Before over worrying, maybe take a step back and approach the challenge holistically? I loved the " An Interactive Guide to Early Retirement and Financial Independence " (https://minafi.com/interactive-guide-early-retirement-financial-independence) which guides you through all ...

Re: Alternative Bank/ broker

Thank you will look this one up. I can only second the impression on Netbank. Recently opened an account and was pleased how smooth this all worked. Not even waiting for any postal mail (besides the physical debit card mailing). Free transfers and a great integration of Cotra (https://www.cotra.ne....

Re: E-Tax filing for a newbie, limited kanji ability...

Thanks, I'm aware, but a lot of Japanese websites used to (still do?) insert "block" image/pdf sections of content aside from the text that wouldn't get translated (Excuse my HTML lack of correct terms). Hopefully this is not the case on the NTA website It used to be hard on the NTA eTax ...

Re: Revolut IBAN

I think it depends on where your Revolut Account is located as the functionality varies. A European / UK Revolut account will have an IBAN, but within my Revolut JP App, no IBAN shows up, even for the EUR account!

Re: How to file a kakutei shinkoku without a my number card?

I do mine online (PC, not smartphone) without the aid of a Mynumber card, but I had to go to the tax office to apply for an account. Note this would have been around 2019, so not sure if the same procedure still applies. Obtaining a 16 digit login number and a password still works for the kakutei s...

Re: Saily eSIMs

If I use an eSIM on my phone when traveling overseas, does my regular phone number still work during that period? It depends. Nothing should get lost, but if your phone can't handle two sim cards at a time (irrespective of format) you would only be able to use one line at a time. In iOS for example...

Re: Complimentary overseas remittance via Go Remit

I became a WIse customer last year as my son is studying in Europe. I find it convenient and quick to pay mobile bills, rent and send cash. I used to use Wise in the far past, but now mostly use Revolut as I haven't discovered any fees on my sporadic transfers to EUR (below their cost threshold) ye...

Re: SIM/eSIM (Europe)

Slightly different approach, but if you are a Rakuten Mobile customer, you have data roaming included in your plan. 2GB of high-speed roaming each month, which came in very handy for a Dec-2024+Jan 2025 trip abroad recently as it added up to useful 2+2=4GB.

Re: Complimentary overseas remittance via Go Remit

Hi, I almost don't want to destroy the excellent experience, but the fees are likely baked into the exchange rate. If you'd do a parallel calculation with the market FX rate of the day of the transaction, I suspect you discover some delta which likely translates into indirect Go Remit fees. In compa...
