Re: NISA a bad idea for mortgage holders?
He says that only people who can afford to pay off the mortgage with spare cash should consider NISA but that seems a smidge over-cautious... That is nonsense, if you ask me... Agreed, especially here in Japan. It’s just patent nonsense. There might be some it’s applicable to (maybe those with high...

Re: Hypothetical - Moving large sum of son's money from UK
If he has won a big prize, it is likely he will owe Japanese tax on it. Leaving it in the UK won't negate this, although in practice it seems unlikely the NTA could find out.

Re: For Brits: it's time to vote
I think the UK should do as France does, and have dedicated MPs for overseas constituents. That would be a super move.

Re: For Brits: it's time to vote

Re: A friend lost her Zairyu card abroad
Update : My friend successfully checked in and boarded her flight to Japan via Doha. The airline DID want to see the police report, the photo of her Zairyu card that she stores on her smartphone, and the document I got from Immigration a week ago stating she is entitled to reside and work in Japan ...

Re: A friend lost her Zairyu card abroad
I had a slightly different experience, I left my zairyu card at home when I went to London last week. I told the immigration officer at Haneda when I left and was given a form to sign with a tick box for “I left my card at home”. When I was returning not only was I not asked for it by the airline (c...

Re: Ray Dalio Nikkei interview “ more inflation and higher gold prices”
Why do you need gold as an inflation hedge when you invest in equities? You know, the very companies creating inflation by raising prices?
