Re: March net worth update

Hi there. What are you guys investing in through NISA and IDeCo? I’m just getting started, so will have missed a lot of the gains many have experienced, but hoping there’s still a bit more life left in the current bull run!

NISA and IDeCo - best investment fund choices

Hi all No doubt this question has been answered before somewhere, so my apologies in advance. I’ve finally opened a brokerage account with Rakuten and I’m ready to start utilizing the NISA and iDeCo investment plans. I have some spare change to dump into the NISA lump sum plan (hoping to max out bef...

Re: Ideco and NISA contributions if lose (or quit) employment

I’d expect (and want) to continue making pension contributions at the voluntary level, even if unemployed. I’m already well behind the 40yrs required for full pension (and will never reach it, as it’s too late to make back payments), so making as many of the remain ones between now (I’m 55) and reti...

Re: Ideco and NISA contributions if lose (or quit) employment

Thanks. Difficult (if not impossible) to predict the future. The tax benefits of iDeCo seem to make it worth having whilst working. Just trying to get all my ducks lined up in case the unexpected happens. Granted, it’s not ideal to set up the plan then to miss out on one of its main advantages, but ...

Ideco and NISA contributions is lose (or quit) employment

I think this question came up somewhere in another thread. Does anyone know what happens if you start IDeCo and NISA, only to find yourself out of work for a period of time (or indefinitely) before reaching retirement age? Presumably one can continue to make contributions when unemployed, but would ...

IDeCo and NISA through Mizuho

Hi fellow forum users. Coming a bit late to the party (being in my 50s), but planning to start IDeCo and NISA. I notice some people have experienced issues setting up plans through the likes of Rakuten and SBI, often as they don’t bank with them. I bank with Mizuho (not the best, but have been adequ...

Re: Making Japan state pension back payments

Just discovered I have 2 pension books! No idea how that happened, but the pension numbers and issue dates are different on each. My name and date of birth are correct on both, but obviously I should only have 1 pension book. I think there must’ve been some clerical error by the pension guys at some...

Re: Making Japan state pension back payments

Happy New Year all! Thanks for the replies. I’d need to go back more than 16yrs to make missed payments, so the prospects look rather bleak. Long story short, I was employed for a number of years in a contract position where my employer didn’t make these payments. At the time the minimum years’ cont...

Making Japan state pension back payments

I’m sure this has been covered in an earlier post. If so, could some kind soul please send me the link, as I can’t find it. Essentially, I’m curious to know if it’s any longer possible to back pay contributions to the Japan state pension? Rather like the UK’s system, I think there was a point some y...

Using UK SIM card with Japan iPhone

Hi there. I’m trying to establish a UK mobile number in Japan, as part of the ID process needed for opening a UK bank account (I’m a UK National and used to have a UK account, but made the mistake of failing to use it and it was closed). I bought a ‘pay as you go’ UK SIM card online and installed it...
