Sending money from US broker to Sony Bank - documents needed?
I've sold off some of my holdings at Firstrade and am planning to remit some USD to my Sony Bank account here in Japan. Apparently once the money gets to Sony they're going to ask me to provide documentary evidence about where the money is from, in order to prevent money laundering and so on providi...

Re: Yay or nay? Rakuten Index Balance Fund (70% VT + 30% yen-hedged BNDW) in NISA account?
It might be quite tax-inefficient, especially in a NISA due to not being able to claim the foreign dividend deduction on the US tax. https://retirewiki.jp/wiki/Japanese_global_index_funds#Comparison_with_US_ETFs That's true. Might be something to be said for a balanced fund which overweights Japane...

Re: Yay or nay? Rakuten Index Balance Fund (70% VT + 30% yen-hedged BNDW) in NISA account?
Sounds like a domestic copy of the Vanguard LifeStrategy funds https://investor.vanguard.com/investment-products/mutual-funds/life-strategy-funds Yes it looks quite similar to those. A similar idea also to the venerable Saison Global Balance Fund except the Rakuten has currency hedging on the bond ...

Re: Yay or nay? Rakuten Index Balance Fund (70% VT + 30% yen-hedged BNDW) in NISA account?
Having the two asset classes mixed in the fund kind of misses the point IMO: I'd want to be selling bonds after a stock crash etc 🤔 Since the fund maintains the 70:30 stock to bond allocation I think that it sells the BNDW to buy the VT after a crash - all on auto-pilot. That’s why I thought it wou...

Hi. You're right. The eMAXIS Slim Developed Market Bond Index Fund is not currency hedged. I think that the idea about hedging bond funds is that the bonds allocation is supposed to stand fast when the stock prices plummet so that you'll have some capital to put into buying the now-cheap stocks in a...

Yay or nay? Rakuten Index Balance Fund (70% VT + 30% yen-hedged BNDW) in NISA account?
What do you think of having 100% Rakuten Index Balance Fund (Equity overweight type) in the NISA account of someone who's recently retired? The fund rebalances itself which seems to me to be a nice risk hedge for when you're in your 70s and the 80s and perhaps have reduced faculties, and the 30% glo...

Why red for + and blue for -?
Why do market boards at monex, rakuten and sbi show price increases in red, and decreases in blue? I'm so used to it being the other way round from years of using Firstrade it's going to take me a while to get used to this...(grumble)

Re: Japanese stockbroker with 2FA login?
Turns out Monex also has 2FA using either an authenticator (eg. Google authenticator and Microsoft authenticator) or SMS. I just set it up to use Authy as the authenticator and I feel _much_ more secure about using Monex as my main online broker going forward. I've also got the 2FA turned on at my R...

I use the eMAXIS Slim one you mentioned. You might find this interesting: https://www.retirejapan.com/forum/viewtopic.php?p=38854#p38854 This was really interesting. Thank you. I think that I would much rather have less volatility than potential high returns over the long term once I am retired. Th...

Re: Investing in stocks through Interactive Brokers
I have opened my Interactive Brokers (IB) account in Japan and am looking to invest in ETF's/Indexes. I am a British citizen I think the Japanese online brokers (SBI/Rakuten/Monex) are better for that. https://retirewiki.jp/wiki/Japanese_global_index_funds For the core index holdings, the low cost ...
