Re: Barclays UK closing expat accounts ?

Hello. Unable to log in to my Barclays account earlier this month, I called Barclays to ask for help. “Your account has been closed” I was told, with not a hint of regret in the voice of the Barclay's rep. Their explanation was they sent me three letters informing me that as I am an account...

Re: Entering semi-retirement - what now?

This thread is excellent and pretty much my current situation so will be following closely as I'm learning a lot from it. I do have a few questions regarding timing of everything and what depends on what. For example, if the last day officially employed is May 31st (assumption is the company ends it...

Re: PR Application with no Job?

Hello Isodora Thank you for the recommendation, but unfortunately the company seems to be overwhelmed with work at the moment. " Currently we are only able to take on new requests from our existing clients and those who have been referred to us through our clients or acquaintances. " If an...

Re: PR Application with no Job?

I'm easily over the 10 year qualification route, and have been employed the whole time paying tax. Also, I still have a couple of years on current spouse visa, so there is some room to manoeuvre. Reason I was looking to move things along was while I am still employed, but that idea is looking compli...

Re: PR Application with no Job?

How far back do they go with the checks?

I've been employed in a big company up until now would expect everything to be order.

However, I've still to gather all the certificates etc.

Re: PR Application with no Job?

Thanks for the advice.

I think my best chances is if I pay a specialist to get my application together incase things get complicated.

Any recommendations?

PR Application with no Job?

Hello All I've been working in Japan for more than 12 years and currently have a 5 year spouse visa. Just wondering my options to transition from spouse visa to PR if I am no longer employed? I've been employed my whole time being in Japan and I plan to get the application in this week. But will soo...

Re: Redundancy - Anyone gone through the process in Japan?

After weighing it all up, decided I'll go with it and take the "involuntary retirement" deal. Adding it all up works out at over 2.5 years salary. With one door closing, another one opens. The many things that need to be taken care of when you leave employment. Having been in one company f...

Re: Redundancy - Anyone gone through the process in Japan?

Thanks Tkydon I had not even started to think about that - but great that you raise it. I'm putting together a timeline plan of everything that will happen. For example - Last day in the office - Gardening leave start/finish - When retirement payment due - When to approach Hello Work This will be ad...

Re: Redundancy - Anyone gone through the process in Japan?

Thanks for all the good advice.

The full payoff works out at about two years salary, and at the special retirement tax rate, sounds pretty fair.

So as things stand now I'll very likely take it.
