Re: PR Application - Experience

Bottom line: The whole process was less complicated as I´d have it expected to be. Submitting the application is just the beginning 😁 Give us an update once the residence card is in your hands. Hopefully the next communication is the postcard to pay the fee, rather than a request for more documents...

Re: PR Application - Experience

To be honest, in my case the requirements of which documents have to be handed in were very clear and easy to follow. Yes, my wife had to go to the ward office to get her Koseki Tohon and I myself to the Tax office, but that´s it. Based on my experience, I would not recommend using a lawyer. That be...

PR Application - Experience

Hello forum, I just wanted to quickly share my experience with applying for the PR visa and my visit to the Immigration Office in Shinagawa today. Quick info regarding myself: +10 years in Japan, married to a Japanese, until now only on work visa (always applied for 3 years, always granted). Getting...

Re: Wife´s portfolio - and what to do with it

Hi adamu,

many thanks for your comment.
Yes, the 20% are obviously an issue. I´ll discuss with her what to do, but setting up a NISA acc is for the beginning a good start I guess.

Regards,
Michael

Wife´s portfolio - and what to do with it

Hello forum, my wife has a well filled stock portfolio containing stocks of her company she is working for. As the future is always in motion, I thought it would be good (wise?) to use the money which could be gained from a sale of those stocks and re-invest them into some index funds. She has no NI...

Re: Buying a property - and no clue

You would have to inform the bank and ask for permission to rent the property out, and they may require you you to change from an Owner-Occupier Loan to a Commercial Terms Loan, or may call your loan, and you would have to finance with a lender that would provide a commercial loan. I fully suspect ...

Re: Buying a property - and no clue

Thanks for the input.

How would the situation look if I use it as a 2nd home?

Re: Buying a property - and no clue

What are the construction materials? This will determine the residual value of the structure after depreciation. If you are planning to rent out the property, you will not be able to get an owner occupier loan. You would have to get a commercial loan, which will require a large down-payment (think ...

Re: Buying a property - and no clue

This thread may be useful https://www.retirejapan.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=3646 It contains a recommendation for the house survey company I used. Fantastic! Very helpful and the company mentioned looks promising. I might contact them. Prices are also what I would have expected. Again, my thanks!
