It is interesting and I appreciate the responses.
I thought it was just a "dont ask, don't tell" issue. I didn't know that you were supposed (technically) to make a declaration before 20.
Has anybody ( meaning your children) actually filed the Article 14 before 20?

Re: Adult Children Born with Dual Nationality
Thanks. He has just renewed his passport, but I was just wondering if there was still an obligation to fill in this form before turning 20.Apparently, it is some document you have to get from the Ward office.

Re: Adult Children Born with Dual Nationality
Can someone clear this up for me: my son has dual British/ Japanese nationality. Before he turns 20 does he have to get the 国籍選択届, Kokuseki Sentaku Todoke and promise to endeavour to renounce British nationalty, or can he just carry on. What I mean to say is: does he have to do something proactive b...
Re: UK Income
Thanks for the fast response!
Would I have to convert the amount to yen for the Japanese tax return? If so, which date would I use for the exchange rate?

UK Income
I have a question about income generated in the UK. If this has been asked before can someone point me to the relevant post. I have a flat in the UK that I rent out and usually I remit the money to Japan and declare it on my tax return. This year, I'm planning on leave the money in my UK bank to use...

Re: Flying with two passports
Well, it's certainly easier now. When I first came here you needed to get a reentry visa stamped in your passport that was only valid for 1 year, and you had to go to an immigration office to get it.

Re: Flying with two passports
Don't think I have ever been asked coming back. They need to ask on the way out if you want to use the one year return system. Not sure if they check if you have a reentry permit -it's been a while. I was asked for mine this year and it was scanned with a reader.I thought the zairyu card now functi...

Re: Flying with two passports
Thanks for the fast response Tkydon. I think most tourists will have a return ticket out of Japan so he'll probably have to show his passport. I always have to show my resident card to check-in staff when I fly back to Japan, they never assume I'm just a tourist. I Last time I went to the UK I comp...

Re: Travel insurance recommendation?
Restarting this thread as I'm going back to the UK next week and would appreciate any advice. Tabiho was being recommended for insurance, but I can't fit my name in the application- two middle names and a longish surname. Has anybody else had the same problem? Are there any other travel insurance re...

Re: For Brits: it's time to vote
Mine just arrived today. I was wondering though: did anybody add "UK" to the return envelope? I'm not entirely convinced the Japan postal service will know "Grande-Bretagne".
