Reading through this thread, there seems to be only one piece of advice to give....

Re: NISA with JA Bank - any feedback or advice ?

I agree with that others are saying here - 0.56% is pretty high. For example, the eMaxis Slim All country has a yearly fee of 0.05775%. So, about 1/10 of what you're being offered. Just one point, if you go down the Rakuten broker / bank account route (recommended - it's pretty easy!), you should de...

Re: Paperwork associated with tokutei investing

Awesome, thanks guys!
That was basically what I thought, but I thought it better to check, rather than rushing ahead.

"Set and forget" is my preferred mantra!

Paperwork associated with tokutei investing

Hi I have been in the fortunate position to max the growth segment of Nisa out already, and I have some remaining funds, which I'm considering putting into the tokutei account. Perhaps a silly question, but assuming I chose "tax withholding" when I set up my account, is there any further p...

While I'm not sure this is going to raise birth rates, providing opportunity for young people to maximise their potential seems like something we should want to support. There are many worse things to spend money on, I would suggest.

Re: 10 years old! How has RetireJapan helped you?

For me, it was seeing Ben's talk in Tsukuba in 2020. I signed up for Rakuten securities and was all set to get started, but it wouldn't accept my credit card because of a slight difference in account names... And so, with a newborn daughter sucking up my time, I forgot about it for 3 years. Until th...

Re: Putting money in Junior NISA

With this being the last year of the Junior NISA, is it worth taking advantage of it before it's gone? Or is it too late to be worth it? The wiki says that funds will be transferred out to a regular account in 2024, so any benefits would only be for this year, right? As I understand it, this is the...

Re: Temp visa while waiting for working visa possible?

I think that in recent years, the requirement to leave the country has quietly been dropped. I think it should be possible to convert from a tourist visa to a working visa, provided they have an employer willing to sponsor them. However, I would say that in my experience (university faculty working ...

Re: Ben controversy on FB

The ultimate owner is not really relevant to the point? The bonds need to be repaid to whoever owns them - foreigners, banks, wealthy indivduals, corporations... whoever. Unless you are saying the MoF can default on their JGB's because tbey are mostly owned by Japanese? If so, I would rather not be...

Re: Putting money in Junior NISA

For my grandkids' NISA accounts, the easiest thing was to put the money in their bank account then transfer to Rakuten. As long as the child is not receiving more than 1.1m yen a year in gifts, they don't need to worry about gift tax. Awesome - thank you! That makes life pretty easy - she has more ...
