Re: What do you count towards your first 10 million yen?
This comes directly from the first 100,000 USD, as made famous by Charlie Munger. In its originally sense, it was taken to mean only invested Income. That is how I treat it. No cash holdings, pension, future payouts etc. Current investments only. However, I would suggest a sliding scale. First 100k ...

Re: Strategy for the 2025 NISA
Watz Harris's running mate is reported to have no investments and doesn't own his home despite his decent salary. The mind boggles that he could have been on the top table deciding people's financial futures. I guess he is a potential client for Ben's investment workshop thing. He should have some ...

Sure, but the advantage with regards to the grandkids is that they can't cash it out :D The Benefit of iDeCo is the large Tax Deduction. Tax Free Money In, Taxable in Retirement You pay with Pre-Tax Yen, but if you have already paid tax on that Yen due to Withholding, then you get that tax refunded...

Fingers crossed. I think one potential danger to the markets next week is if Trump loses by a small margin. I doubt he would accept it, and anything could happen after that. If there's one thing markets don't like it's uncertainty, so we should be prepared for a risk-off crash or correction i...

I don't suppose anyone has had any luck linking to Japansese securities accounts? Tried that, last week, but couldn't figure out how to fetch the price of Japanese index funds. I don't know if it's because I'm looking for Japanese stuff, index funds or my setup of the retrieval system. Getting GnuC...

Re: Retirement planning
I bet the Japanese state pension won't be that much more than it is now.... How pensioners manage to live on 64,000 yen a month, I don't know. Isn't the answer that most of them don't? Kosei nenkin is much more than that, so for the average salaryman they will get more like 150,000 - 200,000 per mo...

The business owner would be able to charge a premium for this service as most existing Expats are economically well-off at retirement Huh? The only well-off Expats I know in Japan are those who served in the US military and now have nice pensions and savings. Thanks to being in the military, most o...

Re: Getting partly paid in USD (or EUR)
Could you receive the USD directly into your Shinsei account and immediately transfer it to SBI, thus they will take care of all the currency reporting? I don't believe they do this. If you make FX gains based on your balance, you have to report it as miscellaneous income on the tax return. https:/...
