Re: Is it possible to claim foreign tax credit to avoid TRIPLE taxation?
I'm wondering whether the National Tax Agency in Japan will let you claim tax credit on not just the taxes withheld by the IRS in the US, but also on the taxes withheld by the originating countries of the stocks held in the Vanguard ETFs For a tokutei kouza, the annual witholding statement only inc...

Don't think so.ChapInTokyo wrote: ↑Tue May 21, 2024 7:24 amIs it possible to claim foreign tax credit on these tax amounts paid to foreign tax authorities by the US ETF or funds, so that you get to avoid triple taxation by the originating country
I'm talking about Japanese tax credits. I'm not sure about US.

It might be quite tax-inefficient, especially in a NISA due to not being able to claim the foreign dividend deduction on the US tax.

Re: Saving/Investing options
With the yen being so crappily low atm I'm wondering what my other options would be. Even if you bought a Japanese product, it would be investing in the same underlying international securities, so it doesn't make a difference. If you are planning on leaving within 3 years, I think you'd be better ...

Re: UK eVisa for UK permanent permit holders
It looks like quite a predicament. I'm no visa expert, this is just my understanding from reading the article you linked and the info on gov.uk. There is an official factsheet from the Home Office , which says: It is free, and straightforward for customers who hold physical and paper documents to cr...

Re: Sanity check on tax implications of applying for PR

Re: PR Application - Experience
Bottom line: The whole process was less complicated as I´d have it expected to be. Submitting the application is just the beginning 😁 Give us an update once the residence card is in your hands. Hopefully the next communication is the postcard to pay the fee, rather than a request for more documents...
