Re: Rakuten VTI Fund or Vanguard Total Market ETF in Monex NISA account?

I think the point ChapInToyko is making, and that's explained in the article, is that if you buy a dividend-paying ETF in a taxable account, you can claim the foreign tax deduction, but if you buy a reinvesting fund, you can't. For taxable, it seems there are now three categories: 1) Foreign ETFs th...

Re: Rakuten VTI Fund or Vanguard Total Market ETF in Monex NISA account?

Yes I thought about the need to keep a bit of headroom to allow for reinvestments. For VTI I think that dividends are paid out quarterly and on an investment of 1.2 or 2.4 million yen will be less than the price of one ETF share so I’d probably need to keep a space of around 200,000 yen or so below...

Re: Rakuten VTI Fund or Vanguard Total Market ETF in Monex NISA account?

I think the ETF is not a good choice for the NISA for two reasons:

1. You will pay 10% US tax on the dividends (although I'm not sure how the Rakuten fund handles this, either)
2. Dividends cannot be reinvested without using additional NISA allowance.

Re: Wife´s portfolio - and what to do with it

I think it's a good move. If the company has problems, she loses her job and her savings. If you convert the stock to an index fund, you get the benefits of diversification, and decoupling the fortunes of her investments from that of her employer. Just bear in mind ~20% capital gains tax will be ded...

Re: How does NISA count dividends?

Is this still true with the new 2024 Growth NISA? I decided to invest in the SBI Japan Dividend fund on the growth portion of my NISA and selected my dividends to be reinvested. Will these dividends use up my Growth NISA allowance even if reinvested since it is not under Tsumitate NISA? You're goin...

Re: Is monthly purchase mandatory in tsumitate part of NISA?

The only way to buy funds in the Tsumitate portion is by placing a recurring order. Even bonus payments require the recurring order to be in place.

You don't have to place a recurring order, but then you won't be able to use the Tsumitate portion.
