Re: Switching mobile phone operators

When doing the speed test, make sure you’re not connected to your home wifi, as you’ll end up with very different numbers.

Re: Switching mobile phone operators

All very helpful, thanks. I just got 12.3 Mbps on Au, which seems just fine. Will also try it at different times of the day and see how it compares to everybody else’s numbers.

Cheers.

Switching mobile phone operators

I’ve been considering switching out of Au for a while, but my main concern is the loss of speed and connectivity. I’m quite a heavy mobile internet user (long train journeys filled with online news reading, games and and occasionally video, my phone is my car’s gps, and I also use the internet at wo...

Is it possible to put this site as the Forum link on the main retirejapan page, and have the old forum as an external link?

Re: Junior Nisa - investment amount

As far as I can tell, Work balance is quite correct: the Rakuten junior NISA page makes it quite clear (three times) that under normal circumstances the account is not accessible until the holder turns 18. Re: Mortgage in Japan.

If your real estate agent is worth their salt, they will find banks for you and talk you through the offers. As has been mentioned already, the local banks offer the better rates, And mine didn't even require a guarantor. You will lose out on some minor things though, like availability of free ATMs.

I just got my next year's allocation at the beginning of the year each time. I suspect it might be different from the second 5-year period (from 2018), but we'll have to wait and see until January.
Thanks for putting my mind at ease, apologies for the late response.

Re: NISA after 5 years

I have an idiot's question to ask, vaguely connected to this thread.

Do I need to re-apply for or somehow trigger each year's NISA account or does it start automatically? I've been assuming the latter, but everybody knows what's assumptions lead to, especially in Japan!

Re: Capital gains tax and income tax

Thought as much. Doubt they'll be very interested in my ¥1,200 or so of dividends anyway!

Re: Capital gains tax and income tax

To follow up on what Adamu mentioned, how are dividends treated in NISA?
