Re: Pending- Law to revoke the permanent residency status of foreign nationals who fail to pay taxes

Another article on this in the Mainichi today. This time providing much better context. Apparently the rate of nenkin payment non-compliance amongst the whole of the population is double that of the immigration sample...

Re: Home (and earthquake) insurance

All Insurance Premiums you pay can be deducted from your Taxable Income, either through Year End Tax Adjustment - Nenmatsu Chosei, or through Tax Filing - Kakutei Shinkoku, so you do not pay tax on those insurance Premiums, or looking at it another way, the government pays 30-50% of the premium wit...

Re: Pending- Law to revoke the permanent residency status of foreign nationals who fail to pay taxes

I got the exact same response. Most of the delinquency relates to pension. I wonder when proving pension payment became part of the PR process. Maybe these parents got PR when that wasn't part of it, so didn't realise it would be checked. Not excusing folk dodging obligations but it does seem that t...

Re: Pending- Law to revoke the permanent residency status of foreign nationals who fail to pay taxes

Agree that the Mainichi is usually fine. I was irked enough to fire off a polite questioning message to them on this one though. Haven't checked out the Japanese original yet to see if that's where the problem lies, but the translation team have to do better than that in any case.

Re: Pending- Law to revoke the permanent residency status of foreign nationals who fail to pay taxes

Grim article in the Mainichi, claiming 10% of permanent residents fail to pay taxes. Turns out this is based on a small sample of PR applications from the immigration department, and includes pension and health insurance. So not actual permanent residents (one would assume such applications were tur...

Re: Delaying pension

Also, a thought I had. I think many of us here are married to a Japanese wife. With how long women in Japan live, and the lack of survivors pension after 65, it may be a good idea to take your pension at 65 or 70, and have you wife delay taking her pension until 75. It will leave her with an extra ...

Re: PR Application with no Job?

In theory, ability to support yourself should not be a factor in PR from the spousal route. Not sure I would want to test that out though. In any case, if you get your application in while still employed there is no need for them to know that you have subsequently become unemployed. You are require...

Re: Any thoughts on eMAXIS Slim Balance (8 Asset Equalization Type)

The Resona Smart-I funds have lower charges and three choices with different ratios of stocks and bonds. There are some REITS in there too, but at lower percentages than your emaxis balanced. Not a recommendation, but might suit what you are looking for.
