Selling Old NISA; Buying New NISA
Hi everyone, I had a random shower thought: As soon as 2024 rolls in I plan to sell all my assets in my 2019 NISA (about 2.2 million worth of emaxis slim all country) and rebuy the same into the new NISA - topping up to the 2.4 million limit. Then it hit me like a flash - every other punter out ther...

Re: Rakuten new tsumitate nisa setup date
It’s a separate topic, but on WBS this week they were covering government tax panel discussions about increasing the amount of some 交際費 deduction from 5,000 yen to 20,000 yen. To me there is no sense to the preponderance of carveouts in the tax system… and I never get to use this 交際費 deduction myse...

2nd time lucky and my zairyu card was approved. Japan now remains safe from money laundering and terrorism until my card expires in 2029.

Re: Rakuten zairyu card registration deadling is Dec 11
Just uploaded my zairyu card details to Rakuten (why do they ask for furigana, something that is not written on the zairyu card????????) System error in 3... 2... Round 1 - rejected as I didn't realize I needed to include my middle name (there was no space for it). Round 2 (the furigana odyssey) no...

Re: Rakuten zairyu card registration deadling is Dec 11
Stuff like this really ticks me off - because I am not a citizen it means I am automatically suspected of money laundering? To be fair it’s not about money laundry or suspicion but about updating the residence status. Besides seeing from many of the posts here there seems to be quite some undeclare...

Re: Rakuten zairyu card registration deadling is Dec 11
Stuff like this really ticks me off - because I am not a citizen it means I am automatically suspected of money laundering? Of course no Japanese citizen would ever do such a thing and all of those pachinko parlors, mahjong joints and mizushobai bars are honest upstanding cash-based businesses that ...

I dispute this verbification of tsumitate. I think it should be tsumitatsued .tsumitatied.

Re: Rakuten new tsumitate nisa setup date
Set up the New NISA reservation in Rakuten. Was pretty easy since I already had CC and Rakuten Cash auto-purchase set up for my tokutei account.

Re: Wise 1m yen transfer limit
Thanks for this. Sounds like they will let you do it once in a while but not on a regular basis. Too bad, their exchange rates are by far the best. Using my Wise account is probably the next best bet but the 1 million cap is annoying. Yeah, I've done them several times over the years with IBLLC and...

Re: Wise 1m yen transfer limit
I asked IB if it would be OK to move a large-ish amount of Euro to my IB account, change it to Yen, then transfer the Yen to my Japanese bank. They said I shouldn't be using IB as a currency exchange, but did not say anything about penalties or stopping the transfer. My conclusion is that they may ...
