Re: research progresses..... questions about ideco/nisa/other investing

thanks for the replies! rakuten seems good to me, no one seems to think that's a bad idea so we'll go with it. I didn't realize I'd need a broker (is this the right word?) account to open the NISA (ideco we can do without I think, since we have the application forms already) but if it's easier to st...

research progresses..... questions about ideco/nisa/other investing

hi all, so, we've been doing some reading (millionaire teacher, takegawa 確定拠出年金 and はじめての投資信託) and have the application packs for SBI and Rakuten Ideco. Millionaire teacher says: index funds, balanced between bonds and stocks - ok, I think we understand that. It seems hard to choose between SBI and ...

Re: making a will for a UK national

a quick read of that moneysavingexpert link says that online forms may be adequate for a simple will but if you have any complications (such as living overseas.....) a solicitor is the best bet (they will also store it for you as part of the service), my parents seem to have someone local (to them) ...

Re: moustachianism...

We think we understand what you're saying - the money I pay into ideco is subtracted from my income BEFORE tax is calculated - me and wonderwife have had a look at my 源泉徴収票 and p59 of the takegawa book and seem to now be satisfied... (tho when I ran the simulation you linked to it gave a much higher...

Re: moustachianism...

thanks so much for the replies, and the encouragement, I confess I'm feeling a bit at sea and out of my depth with all this talk of personal finance and investing. It doesn't really help that I've never had much affinity for numbers, my wife was running me through some calculations she made and I co...

Re: making a will for a UK national

thanks, good point about the list of account information, my parents have prepared something similar for me, I should make similar for my heirs (with an explanation in japanese for my wife!). Another item for the to-do list..... I just googled "uk online will" and https://www.netlawman.co....

Re: making a will for a UK national

thanks for the reply, yes, I'm pretty sure it's not an urgent issue, esp as I'll be leaving everything to my wife/children anyway, I'm just thinking I'll go ahead and make one as a better-safe-than-sorry approach

making a will for a UK national

So apparently it turns out Japanese inheritance law DOESNT cover you if you're not japanese (even if you have PR) (http://www.retirejapan.info/wills.html)....so it seems I need to make a will

Um, any PR UK nationals done that? How did you go about it from Japan?

moustachianism...

I see the mrmoneymoustache blog is on the retirejapan further reading page, I've been reading a lot of that over the last couple of months (it's very entertaining) and it fits pretty well with our lifestyle as a family already (we've always been pretty frugal - just the one kei car, buying second ha...

Re: what to do with money I have in england?

thanks for the replies, but no worries, I'm definitely going to leave the accounts open with at least a little in them. Nothing to be gained at all by closing them, and as you say I never know when they might come in useful. And it's very handy having a local bank account when I visit.
