Re: Spousal secret stash

I browsed across this article this morning, and thought of this thread. In the answer, the expression "financial infidelity" is used, which I think relates to the discussion above--does a secret stash represent that or not. https://slate.com/business/2024/04/girlfriend-tax-return-salary-ra...

Re: Spousal secret stash

For both of us, separate accounts have always been the norm. And while not hidden, there's no need to lay out all the details. Since we've both always worked, we collaborate on and share what we decide to, and the rest we can do what we want with. I'm not really sure how much money/investments she h...

Re: 2024 JP Tax forecast negotiable?

... I got a letter with 4 payment vouchers to be paid over the course of the tax year. The amount of those payments I assumed was based on my income from 2022, that's the "forecast" I mentioned, perhaps estimate would have been the better word to use. Anyway I am assuming I will receive a...

Re: So who's actually retired in Japan?

... The Kokusai Mura on the edge of Lake Noji in Nagano becomes an international summer camp for July and August. These days perhaps 30% are Japanese and 50% mixed nationality. Out of season, it is more a like a retirement village, since village employment is very limited and the nearest large city...

Re: Trading account options as a non-resident

Given all the stories about new people to japan not being to open even a bank account* until they're been here for six months, I very much doubt this is possible.

They would want your residence card and My Number, too (and probably images of the front and back of both).

Look up Gold Toe (US or Japan amazon) and go from there.

(SOXX isn't a bad ETF, either. )

... the dividend would carry over from the old holdings into the future. ... It's not that it 'carries over'. You were the owner of record on 28 Dec, the ex-div date. As such, you'll get the dividend, whether you re-bought the shares or not. Also, you have to own the shares before the ex-div date, ...

Re: Bitcoin: So at the end of the day, is it worth it?

Seems like the Japanese gov't pension fund is looking into perhaps investing in Bitcoin, too. https://www.cnbc.com/2024/03/19/japan-pension-fund-explores-bitcoin-as-an-investment.html Not investment advice (of course), but if the JP pension fund is looking into Bitcoin, maybe us plebs planning for ...
