Re: FIRE getting popular in Japan
significantly more focus on living off dividend income, rather than the 4% rule. Many outright dismiss the 4% rule as unachievable in Japan Sounds like the general fear of the stock market. I still get the strong impression that people here don't believe you can invest outside japan or something? I...

Re: How much leverage is safe in investing?
I am not certain of anything but it is highly probable that equity index funds should yield more than 2.8% annually over a long period of time. If so then what is the harm in taking such a loan? How long do you mean by long? If you're talking 30 years, you're right. If you're talking only 10 years ...

Re: Just got a pay raise. What now?
Depends on your long-term objectives? Do you want to retire as early as possible? Or do you want to retire with more money? Then throw it into investments. If you don't have a retirement roadmap(how much you need and how you're going to get there), now may be a good time to draw it up, and figure ou...

購入・換金手数料なし>ニッセイ 外国債券インデックスファンド or eMAXIS Slim 先進国債券インデックス Also a note on the fund you chose. The difference is small, but Emaxis Slim-Advanced Country seems a slightly better choice. Perhaps not by enough to switch though. https://shintaro-money.com/dm-bond-funds/ Looks like it is now. It wasn't th...

Re: Is now a good time (for a Dummy like me) to buy some bond funds?
I've had a 20% bond allocation since starting a few years ago. I'm using <購入・換金手数料なし>ニッセイ 外国債券インデックスファンド which is the cheapest foreign bond fund. It's certainly underperformed other assets, but that is to be expected in a bull market. It has provided stabilization during the dips we have had and all...

Re: Earning "free" points by investing.
so long as you're not letting "gaining points" guide you into poor investments use whatever gives you the best points. But I've noticed that generally the best points go to things that are not good for your investment... Like setting revolving payments on your credit card, etc... I wonder ...

Not paying close attention to it(and thus ending up trying to time the market) may actually be better for you
I used to track a bunch of things but was looking at them regularly and stressing out over them. I stopped and now life is good and my portfolio slowly grows

I wasn't particularly happy with most calculators I've seen online so I made a calculator for personal use and thought it was relevant to this so I'll share it here(make a copy and plug in your own numbers) https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1VvKhR2gAw0JcdDvgsTVLQwxWJbL1-ohHED53gmoGe5Y/edit?usp=...

Re: Industry specific index ETFs
There's an argument to be made for investing in nuclear power as a transitional energy source between fossil fuel and renewables. And from an ecological perspective it also makes sense as it is far far better than all the coal plants that are being run right now to power japan(because of the nuclea...

Re: How much do I need to toss into the market to get 100,000 JPY a month?
Everyone works off different numbers, but one popular one is 4% return to account for general instability, inflation and such, withdrawing in perpetuity. If you want 100,000 a month you thus need 1.2m a year, and that would be 4% of 1,200,000/0.04=>30,000,000 or 30 million yen. There's no reason to ...
