Re: Passive investing bubble?
Passive investing itself can't be a bubble. What your regular contributions go into can be. So long as they're diversified it's fine. Cost averaging will work things out for you. So long as you stick out the bad times. I think the biggest issue is when you have to start withdrawing. If you get into ...

Re: US securities income tax on for Japan residents
I've never done this. The small amount of US withholding tax didn't seem to justify the large hassle of doing tax return, plus the only time I did this: http://www.retirejapan.info/blog/filing-a-tax-return-in-japan they told me putting the dividends in would increase my taxes  My (poor) unde...

Re: Finance/Budget Apps
Were you able to get your pension to link up with moneyforward?
That was one of the reasons I was considering it, but it didn't work for me(some error) even though I was able to log in to the pension website and check my numbers

Re: Rakuten Vanguard ETF Funds
So I've been doing some study recently and considering internal costs, tax efficiency and whatnot. I find this offering to be pretty wanting as far as "buy and hold" is concerned and want to check if my thinking seems accurate: What we're trading for via this wrapper is a multi-layered sys...

Re: Finance/Budget Apps
I downloaded and installed both moneytree and moneyforward and find moneytree easier to work with(the automated label and the focus to the core stuff rather than trying to do everything) I've been trying to migrate to automate as much as possible by getting things on my credit card but small payment...

Re: Post your NISA holdings/results
Living in Japan, and likely retiring here (almost 0% chance of retiring in the US as I'm not American), means I would like a Japan domiciled fund. This removes the currency risk of holding USD assets, it removes the currency conversion cost for buying in USD, it let's me trade real time (when buyin...

Thanks for clearing that up.
I guess disability and maybe hospitalization are the only things I really need to be looking into

Understanding what is covered by hoken kumiai and kousei nenkin
Is there a decent write-up (even a jp summary) that explains what is covered and the main deductibles(and limits) in these? Trying to be useful I've tried to put what I have figured out in here. Please correct me on any misleading information and I'll amend it. What are the differences with the hoke...
