Re: Announcing RetireWiki.jp
This is great. I was going to contribute but you already covered the bit I'm informed about, and it looks good to me!

Re: Stocks booming because with lockdowns people are just putting their money into investments?
Hey jcc, nice to see you posting here. It's been a while. Yeah, when you have a simple plan and stick to it you kind of run out of things to say about it and just run it on autopilot ;) I actually think that's part of the reason that indexing buy and hold/rebalance strategies don't get talked about...

Stocks booming because with lockdowns people are just putting their money into investments?
I've been struggling with the fact that since the whole corona thing got started, while real world economies are not doing well, stock markets have seen some pretty explosive growth. The returns have been good along the board, every index. Why? Well, for a while I thought "perhaps it's on expac...

Re: Buy or wait?
Ideally, I'm hoping to keep total monthly costs (excluding bills like electric) to around how much I'd pay to actually rent a similar place, but I'm still crunching the numbers. Your monthly costs should be less because you still have to pay property taxes. The monthly maintenance fee(修繕積立金)also go...

Re: Japanese stocks are cheap vs S&P
Rebalancing as I go has really helped me buy things at their various lows. it's gotten me to buy developing nations when that was dumpstered by covid, and when nikkei recovery was lagging behind developed nations it got me to buy that. It's always kind of disconcerting to be buying the thing that do...

Re: Mizuho->Pathetic NISA Offerings
I think the NISA offering's of most of the traditional banks are pretty poor. You have to turn to the brokers if you want anything decent. I think the banks intentionally prey on peoples laziness hoping they will use the offerings they put up. Asset Management ONE(the provider of tawara no load) is...

Re: basic book to read on money/world markets
jcc, As a noobie, I have 'If you can' in one hand, reading in repeat *) I must admit I've been daunted by the sheer amount of reading he mentions, so I'm just starting with the jlcollins stock series. I feel like I have a solid list to go from after that now, thanks to the RJ group. Cheers. The way...

Re: basic book to read on money/world markets
I think https://www.etf.com/docs/IfYouCan.pdf still gives one of the best reading lists there is. It covers both the general theory as well as some nitty gritty on portfolios and how rebalancing works to reduce volatility and risk while maintaining gains. It also has some historic stuff in there whi...

Re: Employee shareholder scheme
My wife's cousin was a pilot working for JAL. His wife invested most of their money in the stock. Then the company went bust, he lost his job, and the stock went to zero. Ooops. He found a job with another airline for about half the wage. Sounds like what happened to a lot of people at enron. Don't...

Re: How to know what an Index fund actually contains?
In theory, your stocks should grow the most, so keeping bonds outside your NISA maximises your tax-free allowance. If you have more money to invest than your NISA allowance, then it makes sense to hold the bonds outside the NISA. However, using a balanced fund within a NISA simplifies things and ma...
