Re: international transfers
I have had experience of transferring large amounts of money to Japan when I brought over my deposit for my house about a decade ago, lots of questions from the Japanese bank, also the tax office were asking questions. Curious as to how the tax office knew about this money transfer, if you know? I'...

If it takes you say 5 years to finally get yourself sorted, it would be faster to just learn enough Japanese to get by. And that would have huge knock-on effects for your lifestyle in other areas too. 🧠 In his defense, I've been here for a decade, took Japanese lessons (in Japan, full time) for a y...

I'm with Aeon Mobile as well. They piggyback on the Docomo network. It makes business sense that when bandwidth is tight, Docomo will favor their customers over those of MVNOs such as Aeon mobile. On my daily commute in particular I experience terrible bandwidth when I'm close to Shinjuku. But given...

Also expect large increase in number of divorce. Being forced under stressing circumstances to stay with spouse 24/7 will be testing for many couples. Natality will drop I think. [...] It is really interesting to see how we collectively reacted to all the past outbreaks compared to this one. Hope o...

Re: Final confirmation and advice on NISA
not much information about the downsides of the MUFG and SMBC options. In general, banks have less choices of funds, and they tend to be on the expensive side. That's why historically you see more people here recommending Rakuten or SBI, which have generally given more choices, at lower costs. It's...

Question 3 Is the Golden Butterfly too conservative for someone in their 20's? With 40% in bonds, and 20% in gold, I feel you're looking at 60% of your portfolio with no strong long term growth, and so I was going to say that in my opinion , yes, this looks too conservative for someone in their 20'...

Re: Declaring Capital Gains
I have read somewhere that long term capital gains can be filed separately at a rate of 20.3% but can’t find anything about how to do this. [...] I would be very happy if someone could shine some light in my direction. The form for separate taxation is this one AFAIK: https://www.nta.go.jp/taxes/sh...

So should we only invest in US indexes?? It does feel like the correlation between markets across the world has been increasing. I'm sure some serious studies out there prove, or disprove, this. Edit: then again, the virus being global in nature, it seems normal that all markets are crashing right ...

Both my bond funds are also down 2-3% IN ONE SESSION Holy crap you're right. I had to log in to my account today to get my tax forms... I "lost" 2 years of salary overnight, and the bonds didn't help (bonds -5% overnight). I do have a penny stock that did +38% overnight though! Too bad it...

Hi Hárbarðr, I don't read Japanese that well either, but your plan looks different from the other person on the forum, that I was mentioning above. As far as I can tell, your plan is an Interest Sensitive Whole Life insurance, which appears to come with some guarantees (minimal return per year in pa...
