Re: Keeping a car in Japan for 20+ years
I only got rid of her because "shaken" was due and was going to cost me around 200,000 yen (four new tires alone = 60,000 yen). I had to shaken my 21yr old Subaru WRX at the beginning of this month... Instead of pay the predicted ¥120k~¥150k, I tried the DIY shaken called "User Shake...

Re: Nisa Future
One of the main arguments against normal NISA is it only benefits people with money (100k a month is a lot to put into an investment account). Hmmmm... I certainly don't have loads of money, but I like the regular NISA as I can just plonk in whatever I have left over at the end of each month. I don...

Re: Saving on travel
I was under the impression that beach camping was illegal. Is it a case of finding a remote enough location, as not to be found?? Depends on the time of year on how strictly they enforce this if it even is a law I think... I've camped directly on the beach down in Shizuoka in the off-season and had...

I get the feeling you might benefit from reading a book about investing before getting started. Millionaire Teacher is a good one: https://amzn.to/39BzpXm as is The Simple Path to Wealth: https://amzn.to/3Pv5OPT and Just Keep Buying: https://amzn.to/3PpFB5z Just one of those should be enough. Thank...

Re: Affordable Pastimes and Hobbies?
The editing software Davinci Resolve is available free and is extremely powerful. Thank you. I've been meaning to find an alternative to crappy old iMovie for ages, and I think you've just given me what I need. +1 on this! Thanks! Reading up on DaVinci Resolve, it'll also handle 360 videos so that ...

Mountain Biking in the spring/summer/autumn... Buying used on Mercari or Yahoo auction helps to make the hobby very affordable. If you buy an 'enduro' style bike, you'll be just as happy cruising the streets/roads, exploring mountain trails or hitting the downhill parks like Fujimi or Iwatake... The...

Re: Keeping a car in Japan for 20+ years
Currently driving a 21year old Subaru WRX sedan that I've had for the last 6yrs... It's on 126,000kms (I've put on 60k) and I drive it pretty damn hard -we live surrounded by mountains so going for a 'hoon' is just too tempting. Sure I've had to replace timing-belt, brakes, radiator etc. but not ove...

Re: mobile payments- paypay??
What's annoying is that I use Rakuten as my main card and it doesn't support either iD or Quikpay but Rakuten Edy and its not like iD where it automatically charges the card but you have to load it with money so its quite inconvenient. So I just link iD on my secondary card and I lose out on Rakute...
