Re: Opening an SBI NISA Account in 2020

I’m also finding the humor in this and will endeavor to provide updates as things progress baring such situations as my incarceration. Wife and son are on SBI so I want at least my NISA portion on the same platform. But may consider someone else for a broker account. Rakuten are in the running for m...

Opening an SBI NISA Account in 2020

I imagine people have had different experiences with opening an SBI account for NISA and the SBI process may have been refined and improved over the years. Therefore I thought I'd capture my recent experience just in case it was of use to someone else considering to embark on this journey. Follow SB...

Re: Border Issues

Hi, This is more specific. Section 2 point 4. https://smtrc.jp/useful/knowledge/sellbuy-law/2019_03.html And hurry. I’m reading this as. One year after they start or once they complete you will be limited to a financial claim. The town planning office is a department in my local ward office in Tokyo.

Re: Border Issues

So it seems you are measuring from a foundation level. A very quick google shows that the actual external wall of a room must not be closer that 50cm from the property border or they will not get permission to register the building. (Possible exceptions being if they have your express approval and j...

Re: Is my NISA account also a brokerage account

Ben pretty much already replied but I wanted to add my 2 cents 1) I think your understanding is accurate (Ben already replied). One thing I recommended my wife to do is to have the funds that generate the most dividends be in the NISA as much as possible, since it's tax free. And the rest goes more...

Re: Is my NISA account also a brokerage account

Many thanks! We actually did select the first option as I didn't want to worry about forgetting or misreporting. Just need to decide where to invest this money now. Thankfully 自粛GW is giving my time to read up on the various investment vehicles out there. Although I also realize I've just set out on...

Re: Best Options for College Funds in Japan?

I might be wrong about this, but my understanding was that even though you can't make any new contributions to the Junior NISA after 2023 your investments will continue to grow (or shrink!) tax-free until your child reaches 18. So, it seems like it's still worth opening one up and maxing it out for...

Is my NISA account also a brokerage account

Hi, This is probably a rather silly question. I have just opened an SBI NISA account. Although it appears to effectively be an SBI brokerage account with NISA capability attached to it. E.g. It seems I can purchase things outside the scope of NISA. Obviously these will have cap gains exposure. 1/ Is...

SBI account setup

Hi, Late to the game but will be setting up iDeco and NISA in the coming weeks, or month depending on how long the process takes. I'm assuming I can do both from one SBI account. I have a Japanese bank account with Prestia, that is registered with only my Romaji name. Getting Credit cards attached t...
