Re: Japanese stockbroker with 2FA login?

Do any of the Japanese online brokers have 2 factor authentification in their logins? I've noticed that Monex and Rakuten Securities have "secret questions" as part of their login, but I wonder whether any broker has an app or token based 2FA or passkey security like US brokers like First...

Re: Nakano Asset Management's 'quality growth' active funds?

I guess most of you on this board are confirmed low cost index mutual funds guys... what do you think of skewing a mainly index funds based portfolio with a bit of money stashed in an active fund with a long time horizon like these? Unless you're very lucky, those funds are unlikely to outperform t...

Re: Entering semi-retirement - what now?

I've heard this more than once, but I think it might be more expensive for me. On my monthly paycheck my portion of HC was 36,800 yen. I'm estimating my kokumin kenko hoken might be cheaper (?) Is there anyway to find out before going through the routine at city hall? You may be unpleasantly surpri...

Re: Entering semi-retirement - what now?

Congratulations! Quite similar to my own situation :D One minor thing -you may be able to stay on your former employer's health insurance for up to two years. This can be quite a lot cheaper (at least for the first year) as health insurance payments are based on the previous year's income and kokumi...

Re: limits on transferring money from abroad for income tax return

I am in the process of moving some savings money / premium bonds from the uk to Japan taking advantage of the favorable exchange rate. Is there any limit on how much I can transfer into Japan (from the uk if it makes any difference?) before I need to declare it as income for my tax return? Thank yo...

Re: Bond Allocation

I was watching the “futures edge” podcast the other day and their guest had this thing called the “awesome portfolio”. Nice name. What is it? 20% in each of, equities, bonds, cash, real estate, and gold - iirc. This is Harry Browne's permanent portfolio more or less. Recently Ray Dalio has also bee...

Re: New to the forum, a brief introduction

Welcome! A million yen a month in Japan is a very decent income, and as long as you are expecting to live a normal-ish life will likely be more than enough. Depending on where you end up living, you may find renting or buying a home very reasonable compared to the US. Non-tiny dogs will make it more...
