Re: Children's Accounts - Deposits and Gift Tax

The tax experts argue that it is not that simple, and proving if the gift was effective is not straightforward. The claims are: A. It is not uncommon for a J-NISA investor to have to pay tax upon maturity after the funds are released to them or after the gifting relative passess away, upon review b...

Re: Children's Accounts - Deposits and Gift Tax

Very interesting question, and I'm curious to hear the answer. I suspect it depends on the relationship between the giver and the recipient, the timescale, and whether the tax office would even notice???

Re: Is monthly purchase mandatory in tsumitate part of NISA?

On SBI, I managed to cancel/delete my monthly order in eMaxis Slim All Country on Tsumitate NISA for April since it exceeded my target allocations. Does this mean I will receive a notification next month reminding me to make a contribution? No, there is no obligation/expectation to make any NISA pu...

Re: Work problems.

Hi all. I don’t know if this is the right place to ask but just want some advice over a recent issue at my work. It’s a sole proprietorship if that makes any difference. I recently booked a flight back to the uk for my brother’s wedding in October. It’s the first time in 5 years I’ve been back to t...

Re: Using WISE to repatriate USD from Firstrade to Japan?

I just found this on the Firstrade Q&A section, so apparently I won't be able to withdraw funds to a WISE account. Can I transfer funds between Firstrade and Money Transfer Services? As an online brokerage firm, Firstrade does not accept transferring funds to and from money transfer services su...

Re: Not Japanese, no entry

Not everyone has the personality to "speak to the manager" on the spot. Though I certainly respect those who can channel their inner Karen for the good of all. :) I think I would complain vocally, and perhaps even leave a public facing negative reviews that described the experience from a...

Re: Not Japanese, no entry

Several months ago, I was walking to my local grocer, where there is a bus stop situated right in front of it. As I was walking, I noticed a long line of, what appeared to be, Chinese men, filing out of the bus, led by an Asian woman (she was probably Chinese, too). I know I am profiling, too, but ...

Re: Is monthly purchase mandatory in tsumitate part of NISA?

It is mandatory to have a monthly order. You can set it to 100 yen a month and then buy the rest via the 'bonus' feature.

But why bother? Easiest thing is just to set the monthly limit as high as you can. In 10-20 years time I doubt you'll remember what you did.
