Re: Backpaying UK Class 2 NIc's
The number was the +44 191 203 7010 one. I was actually talking to a real live person within 5 minutes that time! I was so shocked I went completely blank and started gabbling about something or other before my brain reconnected. i have called a number of times and the usual waiting time is around ...

Re: Backpaying UK Class 2 NIc's
I paid some 10+ years worth of voluntary class 2 contributions a few months back. Of course no update in my government gateway account despite the 8 week deadline for the account to be updated having long since passed. I’m not really worried however - I have total faith in the UK government being u...

Re: Pending- Law to revoke the permanent residency status of foreign nationals who fail to pay taxes
If not paying your state pension is regarded as grounds for failing to pay your taxes, what is the status of not paying your NHK- isn't a tax as well??? I think you would get revoke the PR status of most of the foreign residing population and half the Japanese, at the same time.

Re: Giving 'My number' information to companies outside Japan
Hello, I do not agree, we don't have to communicate Japanese TIN to another country. I have a broker account in the UK (Computershare / Equateplus) and for the FATCA/CRS self-certification I don't have to disclose it as I am protected by Japanese law. I found this as well: https://www.irs.gov/busin...

Re: Does Property Income Cause any Tax Problems?
I have property income in the UK for which I pay tax on the rental income. The after tax income is not taxed in Japan but it IS added to Japanese income, which takes me into a higher tax bracket and which also means I have to pay higher health insurance and any medical treatment at 30 percent inste...

Re: Brits: sign this petition (foreign spouse related)
I knocked into a Hungarian at Starbucks a couple of weeks ago. We were chatting and he told me, he had 'right to remain' in the UK before Brexit. He had a Japanese spouse (she did not have the right to remain) and they had met in the UK. They had come back to Japan and had a son here, who was autist...
