Someone just sent me a US paper check (issued by JP Morgan Chase).
What are my options to cash it?
(this is very annoying)

Re: Life Assurance?
I believe life insurance payouts are not considered income for the beneficiaries, is that correct?

Re: Life Assurance?
Hi YG You can do a quick search on kakaku.com: http://hoken.kakaku.com/insurance/gla/ For a 55-year old man to insure a death payout of 30m (3千万) it seems to be about 15,000 yen a month. By the way, $1m USD would be 1 oku (億) in Japanese and I think it would be more difficult to get that level of co...

Re: when is the new forum going to be an active link???
Sorry for the delay! I agree the old forum was a bit crap, but I quite like this one :) I'm planning to get the blog moved over here in the next month or two so that should help. Not so much cheap as zero-budget... I pay for the site myself and it doesn't make any money other than a couple of hundre...

Re: Capital gains tax and income tax
Thanks! It's a start, at least.
I'd like it to be 20万 a month, to be honest
The nice thing about dividends is that they tend to increase over time, both through dividend growth and new investment. I guess that's why dividend growth investing is so popular...

Re: Capital gains tax and income tax
SBI told me they sort of do the tax loss harvesting for you. Yeah, that's it. But using the losses over several years requires filing. I'm happy to leave it all to them! Just glad I don't have to declare (I think my dividends will go over 200,000 this year -what I thought was the limit to trigger a...

Re: Changes at THEO
The THEO changes seem to have been implemented. Basically 10,000 minimum to open account, and the new 'leave it to THEO' portfolio setting.

Re: Capital gains tax and income tax
I just talked to my wife's accountant, and he told me as long as the assets are in a 特定口座 (tax reporting account) then all the taxes are done for you and you don't owe anything extra, regardless of the amount of dividend or capital gains received. Now, if you want to get fancy and write off losses, ...

Re: NISA after 5 years
Edit : I feel like I can't open a NISA account because I started living in Japan in October 2014... I have to wait until January 2018 that the 2nd period begins. Kiyora, did you ask the provider about that point? I just found this on the Monex website, it seems to suggest that you just need to be l...
