Re: Apply for class 3 contributions UK pension

Quick update. From outside EU the turnaround time is 14 weeks they say. I called them thanks, easy to get through. This sounds about right. I checked into my Government Gateway account yesterday to find that my application has now been processed. Almost 14 weeks to the day. Now I just have to wait ...

Re: So Cycle insurance is actually "personal liability insurance?"

That sounds about right. It also covers for liability when you're abroad. Interestingly, your whole family is covered by the liability insurance even if you take out the individual plan. The difference with the family plan is that your family is also covered by the injury part of the plan. So, if yo...

Re: LT British overseas resident and UK NHS cover

For what it costs it's probably worth getting travel insurance. Your credit card may include insurance or you can get it for a few thousand yen. As a non-resident GP visits and treatment at A&E are free but you'd probably be on the hook for anything else. https://www.citizensadvice.org.uk/health...

If you have a Government Gateway account you can click on the "Check Progress" tab and check on the (lack of) progress there. My application has been "being processed" since July!

Re: Simple Q&A - Stock market investing

Please pardon my question, very new to the US Treasuries. Is it only available on the big 3, SBI/Rakuten/Monex? or is it common and should be available anywhere? Also, I browse some but couldn't really get any idea which is which or which one is better than the others... any suggestion? If you're m...

Re: Advice for dividend investing

Will also check out that list of Japan dividend funds. I remember seeing a youtube video on the リベラルアーツ大学 channel that mentioned unlike the US, Japan did not have a good range of funds for dividends. I accepted that at face value without really checking. For me that would be much more preferable th...

Re: transferring money in japan between banks-reducing fees

What's the actual problem with the name change? Is it that they won't process a name change unless you've actually changed your name, or is it that the system can't cope with adding your middle name? The reason I ask is that I had a similar issue at SMBC bank when taking out a mortgage. In the end I...

Re: Advice for dividend investing

Instead of individual Japanese stocks you could buy Japanese high dividend ETFs or REIT ETFs. There's a list here.

Thanks everyone.

My wife has been asking around some of the other mothers. Four of his classmates go to the same dentist and they've all been recommended orthodontics :o

Kids' orthodontics

My wife has bit of a complex about the alignment of her own teeth, so she’s already asked a couple of dentists if there are any problems with our 8-year-old son’s teeth. They both said his teeth were normal, but they couldn’t rule out needing orthodontic work in the future once all his adult teeth w...
