Re: Spending Tracking in Japan

I also vote for money tree over money forward. I find the design aesthetic of money forward quite off putting, it's very ... Japanese.

Re: Where to put my emergency fund

3. vehicle related. Accident or breakdown, maybe you need a new vehicle. 4. home related. Leak/flood/fire/replacing a boiler or similar. 3 and 4 I don't see as emergencies, as these are things that are going to happen, given time. So I keep a separate account for home/auto repairs that I put a litt...

Re: Times Car Share

[*]Just before exiting the car, go online and adjust your end time to save money. I think originally they used to charge you just your usage, but I think this has changed now (so if you adjust it before returning the car, you'll spend less).[/list] I'm pretty sure that's not necessary. I often book...

Re: Get your credit score in Japan

I got 2 of my credit reports and one of my wife's after we were knocked back for a home loan from rakuten after passing the initial screening. Wanted to see if there was anything strange showing up ... there wasn't.

Re: New House Video

Is that an external exhaust dryer? If so I’m very jealous. I have one of those recycled air washer/dryers which is not good for the air quality in the house and in spews lint. Were you able to have it purchased and installed in Japan (if so what’s the brand/ model) or did you have to out market/sel...

Re: Shinsei's Step-Up Program status post Monex transfer (and how to get it if you don't already)

Yeah, I applied to open an account sometime last week, and just got an email saying that something was wrong with my application. When I called up to ask, they told me that due to the migration to Monex, you can't open a new account this year, but you should be able to from Jan 4 next year.

Re: New House Video

After a bit of searching it looks like it is a company called Rainbow Ocean View.

Looks like they are part of a construction company, here is the companies website https://passiop.com/, and more specifically the window makers section is here https://passiop.com/category/rob/

Hope that helps.

Re: Shinsei's Step-Up Program status post Monex transfer (and how to get it if you don't already)

Also be aware that Shinsei is changing it's step-up program next year, introducing a new tier and making it more difficult to get Gold status. However you will keep your status for a year, instead of a month under the new system. I currently hold 1mil in a 2-week term deposit (my emergency fund) to ...

Despite my mother-in-law being really insistent on sun drying absolutely everything (cause I guess sun bleaching isn't a thing in Japan), my wife is more than happy to use the dryer.

Re: New House Video

Is that an electric dryer? I heard those are huge energy consumers, so I am wondering if you are using it much. It's a gas dryer. We run it 3 or 4 times a week, and it barely seems to use up any gas. We have a gas cooktop, oven, dryer and a gas/electric hybrid water heater, and currently our monthl...
