Re: SBI iDeCo funds portfolio. Anyone willing to help?

Hi, and welcome! Your portfolio is definitely not aggressive. Aggressive generally means 90-100% growth assets (stocks, property etc.). Your selection appears to contain around 60% of stocks, and around 8% property. So it can be described as a "growth" portfolio (around 70% growth assets)....

Re: Foreign Rental Income

I assume that rental income from abroad is taxable for permanent residents in Japan even if it isn't remitted to Japan, so I'm trying to find tax efficient ways to keep this income separate from income that must be declared in Japan. Your assumption is correct. I'm not too sure about LLC etc. I hav...

Re: How much will ¥100,000 in 2017 be worth in 2050?!

Double post with Jamo :D Fortunately we seem to have come up with similar numbers. Nice! In Australia the government makes your employer pay at least 10% (up to around 15% for government workers) of your wage into a separate personal account (superannuation). This is on top of your salary, and is f...

Re: How much will ¥100,000 in 2017 be worth in 2050?!

If you want to have an income of 200,000 month for 65 to 85, that is a period of 20 years, so 240 months. 240 x 200K = 48 million, so you would need to save up 1.6 million a year for the next 30 years, or 133K per month. I think that's the calculation for 200,000/month in today's money? He wants th...

Re: Day trading with leftover NISA allowance

I am not sure I understand why you want to do that instead of just using the allowance at the last minute As I said, we won't be able to utilize the full amount (in one hit). We don't have a spare million yen to invest, but a starting amount of 100,000 yen is possible. Or do you mean just invest th...

Day trading with leftover NISA allowance

So it looks like we won't be able to fully utilize my wife's NISA allowance for this year, so I'm considering doing some day-trading to make the most of it. Maybe start off with 100,000 yen. Given that in Japan most transactions require the purchase of 100 stocks, the individual stock price is going...

I'm sure there would be some way to. But you may incur a fee... Not sure.

Re: Insurance - too much/too little?

In my experience, people in Japan are over-insured. Definitely. I believe it's due to their "anzen, anshin" (security, safety etc.) mindset. Recently my wife wants us to get bicycle insurance... It's been in the news a bit lately. Not the one for if your bike gets stolen, but for accident...

Not affecting a lot of people sounds like a great reason to break an agreement in my opinion  Less backlash to deal with, etc.
