Re: Those of you who use Nutmeg (British robo advisor)....

I ended up doing the same thing. I’m going to let one more transfer go through on April 25th before cancelling my direct debit then just leave the money in there. It seems that they have some protection through the FSCS so even if something does happen, I guess the money is safe! Still a bit worried...

Those of you who use Nutmeg (British robo advisor)....

Hi all, I’ve been using Nutmeg for about two years to drip feed British savings into stocks while living in Japan (they allowed non-residents to maintain active accounts). It seems that this will no longer be possible after April 30th. I’ve been keeping my eye on Nutmeg news for a while and it seems...

Re: Deductions for side work prepared at home

Thanks for the replies. I realise its not too complicated to file your own taxes, but doing it at home with the etax software seems to require an IC card reader. At the tax office the staff always seem more than happy to help, so I've usually just handed them my documents, checked the forms with the...

Deductions for side work prepared at home

Hi all, I've been filing my taxes for the last few years by taking them to the tax office and waiting a few hours for assistance. Until now I've been working several part time jobs, and usually give the staff all of my withholding slips, ideco papers, insurance papers and have them do most of it for...

Re: Bitcoin...Double Yikes!!

I only invested money I could afford to lose fortunately, so even though I'm currently running at a ~50%+ loss on all my crypto, I'd rather just leave in in there and speculate than withdraw it all now. Still kicking myself for not withdrawing in January 2018 though for sure!

Re: 2019 NISA allowance

Interesting comments. I went with half the NISA limit (600,000) for now, 80% in the the eMaxis world fund (ex Japan) and 20% in a Nikkei fund. I don't mind overweighing Japan a little because I live and get paid here, but also I'm not confident enough to throw the whole 1,200,000 in (yet). I also th...

2019 NISA allowance

Hi all, Hope you're all having a great Christmas and New Year! It'll soon be that time of year again; a new 1.2 million yen allowance to play with for the NISA account. How is everyone here planning to use it? Fill it all up in one go, or spread it over a few deposits through the year? In previous y...

Re: Has anyone else gotten their taxes done?

I just did mine today. Took all my withholding slips, ideco papers, social insurance statements and a few other things to the main tax declaration assistance office (huge) and spent about 2-3 hours there in total. Thanks to having 5 separate jobs in the last year, I ended up having to pay 87,000 🤕 I...

Yes, I've noticed too. Lettuce is usually 250 yen or more right now.

Re: Frugal grocery shopping?

Oops, you're right! Not sure where I got 5% from. That would be nice :)
