Re: Quick question about Tsumitate Statment

Yeah, you have the right idea. The “kuchi suu” is how many units of the mutual fund you own. (I always imagine this “bite”, or “mouthful” notion being some Japanese fund pioneers way of describing the concept colloquially and then it stuck and became official terminology) I find the number almost us...

Re: Do you use ChatGPT or similar tools?

I use it as my IT help desk.
Wanna know how to do something with a computer? It gives pretty good answers that made me feel I am better at IT than I otherwise would be.

Re: Prestia ATM fee policy change from Oct 2023

I think they were going to start charging me account maintenance fees a few years back, so I just closed my account entirely. Haven’t missed it so far, so if I ever do need to use some services I think I’ll just pay for the services. I like to have my money invested in stuff, rather than sitting in ...

Re: NISA and IDeCo - best investment fund choices

The all-world etfs have a currency risk. If the yen grows strong then you will lose purchase power. In my view, Japanese assets have a currency risk too - the yen itself. If the yen continues to weaken, then purchasing power may be lost (depending on whether Japanese stocks rise enough to compensat...

Re: Trading account options as a non-resident

Does anyone know about the possibility of having a stock account with Rakuten, or SBI, or any other trading houses as a non-resident? I doubt it too. (My partner was able to open a financial account while non-resident more than a decade ago, but even then I think it was because she was going to bec...

Re: Self Intro

ok, I will ignore what you said about buying a lot of futures contracts then, thanks for the clarification. My stop order is almost 1,000 bucks above my entry level, so this one isn’t going to destroy my account if it does gets hit this week. Just close the loop (for now) on my cocoa speculation - ...

Re: Bitcoin: So at the end of the day, is it worth it?

No I saw something from Bruce Ikemizu, a metals guy, about the GPIF asking for info too, he had a link: https://www.gpif.go.jp/20240319_RFI_J_2.pdf Personally, I think the bar for the GPIF to allocate a single yen to Bitcoin or other data ought be rather high… not that I intend to be reliant on the ...

Re: PSA: Changing your tsumitate date could result in missed or double payments - be careful

Nope. I have set a Tsumitate for ¥100k next month. When I try to set up another one, it only gives me the choice of Tokutei or growth portion. I imagine they are working on a projected basis; if you are set to do 100k tsumitate a month then it’s creating an assumption that you’ll do 1200k a year in...

Re: What to do with inheritance?

By the way, I’ve never met anyone who admits to NOT making money with their NISA account. Everyone’s a winner! NISA has coincided with the Abenomics policy mix, which features a weaker yen, so unless one bet on individual investments that turned out to be losers, it would have been difficult for mo...
