Re: new dishwasher day
We had a Rinnai one installed when we built the house. I specifically wanted a Western style pull down door, instead of the more common Japanese draw type dishwashers. We love having it. There's only 2 of us in the house, so we usually only run it once a day, and usually I set it on a timer so it ru...

Re: mobile payments- paypay??
Yeah I added my Rakuten Mastercard too and it went through. I wonder when they started offering it. Now I can stop using iD on my dCard. I can't say anything about their mastercard, as I only recently got it for some free points, but I've been using quikpay with my rakuten visa card for as long as ...

Re: mobile payments- paypay??
What's annoying is that I use Rakuten as my main card and it doesn't support either iD or Quikpay but Rakuten Edy and its not like iD where it automatically charges the card but you have to load it with money so its quite inconvenient. So I just link iD on my secondary card and I lose out on Rakute...

Re: property tax
thanks-but what if its in joint names? In my case the bill is addressed only to me although my wife is a joint owner (50%) in our home. Not sure why. Maybe because my name appears first in list of registration. Or could be because I am the household head. Yeah, same here, jointly owned but addresse...

Re: Negotiating with landlord when asked to leave
I'm with Ben. They are giving you a huge lead time for when they want you to move out, and you are planning to move anyway, don't try and squeeze money from them. Sure it's an option available to you, but morally, I'd say it's a low move.

Re: Kodomo Mirai or Points refund in Purchasing a New House?
Here's a website about it
https://diamond-fudosan.jp/articles/-/1111198
But you should ask your designer/builder about it, as it's not something you can really do by yourself, unless you're very involved in the building process.

Re: Kodomo Mirai or Points refund in Purchasing a New House?
Because we claimed the Zero Energy House grant were ineligible to apply for any of the points programs, so sorry I can't really help here, but if you are getting a ZEH grant be careful not to try and double dip.

Re: Get your credit score in Japan
Honestly, I don't know what recourse you have as our credit reports came up fine, and it was just that rakuten didn't want to lend to me is my guess, so we never had to pursue anything.

Re: Providing funds for a teenager overseas
Gaica pre-paid card might be good for you. It's easy to top up with a shinsei account, and they will only have the funds you load onto it available. You can change the currency on the card, which will cost fees when loading, or preload with yen and get charged a fee when withdrawing in a different c...

Re: Overseas ATM card
I've not used the giaca as a debit card, but used it as an ATM card when abroad in Europe. You can easily top up in seconds from anywhere just by accessing the gaica website. If you top up in yen, there is no charge for topping up, or withdrawing the money back to your shinsei account later. Doing a...
