Gosh! Maybe we have a spy in our midst!
You are right though. I repeated my search and it seems a few choice threads have been snipped. 8-)
I can't recall the specific advice about starting the complaints process if that's what you were looking for.
No, thanks, not needed. I have written to a manager in the Digital Complaints Team.
In the follow up mail I just wanted to use some of those quotes you shared to show that it is not just me that thinks their verification rules are insane. But, they seem to have wiped some of the more vigorous criticism from their site.
Anyway, I don't expect much, but my complaint has been passed on up the line somewhere.

The digital complaints team at HMRC responded about the lack of access to Gateway.
They basically said they passed on my feedback to management but that they were not responsible for changing the verification process.

I was told to contact the adjudicators office if I wanted to take it further:

https://www.gov.uk/complain-about-hmrc
https://www.gov.uk/guidance/how-to-comp ... or-the-voa

I will give up now!
Let's hope that as the UK government further develops their digital capabilities they will make it possible for everyone to access their information online in the future...
